Our Next Concert

Believe it or not, our winter band concert is this Thursday, December 5. This concert will be split up into a 6th grade and a 7th grade performance:

6th Graders: The 6th grade performance will begin at 6:30 PM. Students should arrive at Prairie View no later than 6:10 PM to warm-up and prepare for the concert. The performance will conclude at or before 7:00 PM.

7th Graders: The 7th grade performance will begin at 7:30 PM. Students should arrive at Prairie View no later than 7:10 PM to warm-up as a group.

All Students: Be sure to check that those black pants still fit! The concert will be webcast through Mr. Quaglieri's YouTube channel posted to www.spbb.org/pvms.

Last Call: 6th Grade Mentor Night Scheduling Requests

On Tuesday, January 21, all 6th grade students will participate in Prairie View's Mentor Night. During this event, students will prepare and perform a short solo for an expert clinician who specializes on their instrument. Students will receive a 20 minute time slot between 5:00 PM- 8:00 PM on the night of the 21st to work with their clinician.

If you have scheduling requests (i.e. need to go at a specific time) please let me know by the end of the day on Monday. It will be easier to selectively schedule students right away rather than going back and trying to move things around after the schedule is published.

Epoch Sound Pep Band Night

We are going to have a Band Party in conjunction with a music event! Epoch Sound, the high energy high school pep band that performs at the HS basketball games, has invited interested middle school 6th & 7th grade band students to join them for a performance at the HS Basketball game on Thur., January 9. We have created parts so that all middle school band students, regardless of their performance level or the instrument they play, can participate. Note- the pep band will only play pre-game. This is an optional activity and is not required.

Thursday, Jan. 9

2:50 pm – Rehearsal and Activities at PVMS

4:30 PM – Pizza in the Cafeteria (Bring own drink)

5:05 PM – Load Bus going to the HS (one way…must find a ride home after the performance).

5:45 PM - MS musicians meet in the band room of the High School to rehearse with Epoch Sound. *Students who are unable to attend right after school may also meet us at the high school by 5:45 PM. These students are responsible for their own transportation to the high school!

6:45 PM – Pregame music will begin. The MS group will alternate with tunes played by Epoch Sound.

7:20 PM – Approximate End Time - MS students will be dismissed after the performance.

*Students can stay for the remainder of the game; however they will not be supervised by Mrs. Gleason or Mr. Quaglieri and must purchase a ticket from SPHS Athletics.

Please note that transportation home from the HS is the responsibility of the student’s family! Students will need to take their instruments home from the HS as well as return them on Monday for rehearsal. Please note that family members who wish to hear their child perform must purchase a ticket to the basketball game.

We are also in need of a few chaperones to help with the evening. If you would like to help, let us know. In order to help us plan for transportation and food, money is due no later than Tuesday, January 7.

How do you participate?

1) Return $6.00 for pizza & bus

2) Make sure you have a district field trip permission form completed in Infinite Campus

3) Sign-up on the Epoch Sound Sign-up Sheet on the Band Room Door (coming soon)

4) Start practicing! Music will be handed out in December

Current Information from Previous Newsletters

WSMA Solo & Ensemble-7th Grade Information

All 7th band students have begun a solo project. We will be studying and learning these solos through February. Students have two options to perform their solo at the end of the project.

Option #1

WSMA Solo & Ensemble Festival hosted at Prairie View Middle School on Saturday 2/8/20. This is the Wisconsin School Music Association sponsored festival. There is a registration fee for this festival (please see information below).

  • Information can be found here
  • Registration forms can be found here.
  • Registration and Fees are due December 6

There are many opportunities for parents to volunteer (door monitors, runners, concessions) and be a part of the festival. You can view volunteer opportunities here

Option #2

Students also have the option of recording their solo using one of the following chromebook apps.

  1. Twisted Wave

  2. Screencastify

  3. Simple Audio Recorder

Students will need to attach their recording to the google classroom assignment by Feb. 7, 2020.

Links to all these apps will be in google classroom.

We will need volunteers for this festival. The sign up sheet will have information about the volunteer calendar. It's fun to be around all the excitement of the day and meet some of your child's friends!

There is also a WSMA Piano Festival on Feb. 12th at the high school. If your child is studying piano with a teacher, that teacher will help your child pick and learn a solo from the WSMA music list. This festival follows the same deadlines as the Solo/Ensemble festival. You can write one check for all solo/ensemble events but please double check your math before send it to school with your child.

WSMA Solo & Ensemble-6th Grade Option

All 6th grade students will begin learning a solo to play during 6th grade clinic night in January, however, some students also elect to perform their solo at the WSMA Solo & Ensemble festival held in February. This festival is run by the state organization and is a great opportunity for motivated students to perform for a certified adjudicator.

Participation is very optional. Any 6th grade student who wishes to participate should let us know by the end of the month. Registration must be completed by December 6.
