D. W. Daniel High School
August 2023 Newsletter
Message from the Principal
Welcome back to your school. As we begin the 68th year of #OneDaniel’s tradition of excellence, I would like to challenge this community. We are an amazing school because of the passion and hard work of our students and educators. We are committed to each student growing as a learner, citizen, and member of our community. Our challenge is to take care of each other. We are a Pride of Lions--a family, and family watches out for its members. Help a classmate who is struggling with a concept; listen to a friend who is going through a tough time, and act to help those in our community. It is through these actions and the amazing commitment you all bring to your school that we will continue the tradition of an excellent culture and community.
Have a great school year!
Mr. Russell
Car-Line Reminders
We appreciate everyone’s patience with the car line over the first couple of weeks. Here are a few reminders to continue keeping our car line as efficient and safe as possible:
*School doors do not open until 8:10 AM. Please do not drop off before this time.
*Please pull up as being directed in the mornings and the afternoon to allow for as many cars to unload and load as possible.
*Students arriving after the 8:40 AM bell will need to enter the front of the building.
*In the case of inclement weather in the mornings, we ask that you pull all the way forward and drop students off at the covered walkway.
*If a student is learning to drive and the parent needs to return to the driver seat after drop off in the mornings, please pull all the way up so that other cars are able to go around.
Communications
We hope that you have noticed several improvements to our communications. We are striving to keep our website updated as well as feature all of the great things going on daily at DWD on our social media platforms. Each Friday afternoon, bell schedules for the upcoming week will be uploaded under “This Week’s Bell Schedules.” For senior parents there are also links on the website to Class of 2024 Information and the Senior Events Calendar. This was shared with your senior during class meetings.
Daniel Foundation
In just the first week of school, the Foundation has:
*Provided funds to help offset the cost of new choir dresses so that our choir can enter competitions,
*Funded dissection materials for anatomy and physiology labs,
*Provided funds to purchase AFJROTC uniform shirts,
*Provided the English department funds to help build classroom libraries with updated materials,
*Provided the theatre department funds to assist in updating the sound system/mics and purchasing prop-building materials, and
