Well we are off and running!! Thank you to all the new and returning volunteers who attended the Volunteer Fair on Tuesday, September 13th. We had a great time! Thanks to all of the chairmen for providing information regarding their committee. I hope that everyone found an area of interest in which to volunteer. VIPS News by Molli Murray

We are off to a great start this year! I hope you have all gotten a chance to “meet” your HRC (home room coordinator) and you should have their information on the best way to contact them. If not, please let me know and I can put you in touch.

We still need lots of volunteers for different activities! Kinder, 1st and 2nd all need parent readers (usually every Friday afternoon). Your HRC and/or teacher should have sent out a link where you can sign up. 3rd has a lovely garden and we need volunteers to keep it up. Every grade has SRC demos at different times of the year and we need volunteers to be trained and then present the information.

Our first Spirit Cart is Friday October 14th. If you are new to Copeland, this is a great way for your kids to get Copeland merchandise and fun trinkets. We also need volunteers for this too. These take place the second Friday of every month starting in October during the kids lunch break. A flyer with merchandise and prices will go home the day before.

Our volunteer of the month is Mike Lee! Our esteemed PTO treasurer. There is parking place for volunteer of the month, and it’s his. If you would like to get that coveted spot, please remember to log your hours.

If you haven't registered before go to this link (takes about a week to get login):

And then this one to log:

If you have any questions or comments regarding our VIPS program or would like to volunteer, please contact me at 713-829-0638 or

Volunteer of the month

Mike Lee is our volunteer of the month. Thank you Mike for all your hard work.

Fundraising by Miranda Daniels

The Spirit Shop will be held on the second Friday of every month, beginning in October, during lunch. Be on the lookout for a flyer containing all available products and corresponding prices in your child’s backpack prior to each Spirit Shop. If you’re looking for an opportunity to volunteer, Spirit Shop is a great place to start as we can always use a hand helping our Copeland shoppers.
This year, for our fall fundraiser, we thought we’d change things up and do a fun run in the fall rather than in the spring as we have done in past years. I am thrilled to announce that our main fall fundraiser will be a Glow Run. This will be held indoors so weather will definitely not be an issue. The main lights will be turned off, black lights turned on, and every student will be given glow in the dark necklaces and bracelets. This 9-day program will kick off with a Pep Rally on Tuesday, October 25th. After the Pep Rally, families will have the opportunity to get pledges for each lap your student runs (usually between 30 and 35 laps) with the final celebratory Glow Run on November 3rd. The money we collect during the Glow Run helps us fund educational activities and events in our school that wouldn’t otherwise be possible such as field trips, school equipment and supplies, author visits in the library and so much more! Our goal for this year is to blow the dust off our library and bring it into the 21st century. In order to accomplish this great feat, we have enlisted the help of Fun Run experts at Boosterthon to maximize our profits and ensure that everything is carried out as smoothly and seamlessly as possible.
Throughout the duration of the program, our students will also learn the importance of making a positive impact on our community through a series of inspiring stories based on five kid difference-makers throughout the country just like them entitled, Backyard Box Office. Our hope in this is that we as parents are able to better partner with Mrs. Rice and the wonderful staff at Copeland to demonstrate to our students what it truly means to L.E.A.D.
We would love to have any support you are able to give. Help us reach our goal of $30,000 by reaching out to any and all sponsors you can. And of course, all family members are welcome to come cheer on their student at the Glow Run. We cannot thank you enough for your support. Our school would not be what it is today without you.
Don’t forget to submit those boxtops so we can earn money!

Meet Janice Brown. She is the owner of Girl on the Grow and will be our new master gardener here at Copeland. She is super excited to dig in with our students and parent volunteers.

Phenomenal 5th Graders by Janine Zener

The 5th grade class picture for the yearbook will be taken in early October—they will wear their 5th grade T-shirts for this which we are in the process of putting together and ordering. If you did not fill out the order form at Meet the Teacher, please email your teacher with your child’s name and their shirt size!! This is sponsored by the PTO so no payment is needed. The kids will be signing the number “17” which will be printed on the shirts.
Also, Colonial Days will be here before we know it – November 4th. Be thinking of your child’s costume for this super fun day! You may be able to borrow one, or buy one, or possible even make one. It does not need to be complicated.
