The Dot

written by Peter H. Reynolds

Make a mark and see where it takes you!

You will never know what your are truly capable of unless you try.

Trying something out for the very first time can be uncomfortable.

We all have our strengths and weaknesses.

How did Vashti's teacher support her during her drawing classes?

Vashti's teacher has a sense of humor. When she saw Vashti's blank paper she compared it to a polar bear in a snowstorm. She encourages Vashti by saying "just make a mark and see where it takes you." Although Vashti was frustrated and jabbed the paper making only one dot, her teacher wanted her to sign her work and later hung it up in a gold frame. She honored Vashti's work. This encouraged Vashti to want to try and do better in drawing.

How does Vashti change in this story?
