What Are We Learning?
Homework- Students bring home a reading log every Monday. These are due back to school on Friday morning (unless absent). They are only required to respond to their reading three times each week. Each student has a list of reading responses in their binder. Some of the responses are very quick and easy. However, I do expect them to use complete sentences, punctuation, and detail in their work.
Reading- We are studying different mythological stories. Soon we will be completing a project for the Myth Pandora's Box. Students will be creating 5 evils from the world to put into the box. However they have to resemble a self-created mythological creature (Example: Vanity is an evil in this world- Student could use a small mirror with googly eyes and add wings to resemble how this world is too concerned with physical appearances). I want the students to be creative with this project! They will also add 1 hope to their box. I have not discussed this project with the students yet. When we begin, I will allow them to use supplies from home. I am really excited to see their creativity! Everyone will be sharing the completed project as part of their grade!
Writing- Opinion pieces--Students are using text evidence to support their opinion writing.
Math- Decomposing Fractions--I have added several math games/websites to Google Classroom. Students can log in at home to practice anytime!
Science/ Social Studies- We will be reading The Almost True Adventures of Homer P. Figg. This book is based on the Civil War era. We are going to be learning about the Revolutionary War, Westward Expansion, Civil War, and Civil Rights Movement in the weeks to come.
