JANUARY 2020 / IGSD NEWSLETTER
From the Office of Stephanie Hubbard: 2020 is Here!
It is hard to believe that 2020 is here and it is a start to a new decade. The new year is always a time for reflection and goal setting. I find the year 2020 symbolic because 20/20 is perfect vision. I have spent time thinking about my vision for a great 2020 for the district as well as for myself as a person. I agree with Stephen Covey's advice to "Begin with the end in mind" from his bestselling book: The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People. I have a good idea of what success will look like from our District's mission statement. "Our Mission is to work in partnership with the community to empower all students to reach their full potential as responsible individuals who strive for life-long learning to successfully compete in an ever-changing global society."
In order to get there, I plan on focusing on one word and that is: Relationships. There is more and more research, about the impact of relationships on schools. I believe this is where we will have the most impact on accomplishing our mission. Unfortunately, relationships aren't that easy. I will need help. Please help me this year as I focus on relationships to help us accomplish our mission as a District.
I encourage you to take some time to determine one word which you can focus on in order to accomplish your aspirations for 2020. Please feel free to share your word with me so that we can hold each other accountable to our one word/area of focus.
Happy New Year!

School Board Elections
IG Panthers,
School Board members play a very important role in the success of a district. The April 7th election will determine 2 of our Board members. Kristin Spurley will run as an incumbent for Area 7 (Cobb/Linden/Rewey At-Large). Rachel Zimmer has decided to not run again; so Area 3 (Montfort) has an opening. We appreciate all Board members hard work and dedication to the District. If anyone is interested in running , please feel free to contact me, Stephanie Hubbard. Current Board members may also be a great source of information. Campaign Registration Statement and a Declaration of Candidacy, must be filed no later than 5:00 p.m., on Tuesday, January 7, 2020, in the District Office. The person elected to each area will begin his/her term on Monday, April 27, 2020.
IGSD Hosts Vietnam Veteran Memorial
Starting on January 23rd and running until February 3rd the Iowa-Grant High School will be hosting a display of banners from the Vietnam War. These banners will contain the names and photos of all the individuals who were killed in the War from the state of Wisconsin.
This display is the result of a collaboration between Wisconsin Public Radio, Wisconsin Public Television, and the Wisconsin Veterans Museum. The project is called Wisconsin Remembers - A Face For Every Name and is a listing of all 1,161 Wisconsinites shown on the Vietnam Memorial Wall in Washington, DC. This was an effort to attach a photograph to each individual killed in the conflict as a way to personalize them beyond just a listing of names. The photos were obtained from family members and friends who made the project a success.
The exhibit will be available for students to observe during the school day and the public will be able to observe the banners from 3:30-7:00 during the week. Additionally the community will be able to view the banners on Saturday January 25th from 8:30-6:00 and Saturday February 1st from 8-12 noon. The hope is that these dates and times will allow people in the area an opportunity to see this memorial to our deceased veterans.

Let’s Hear it From the Board
This may be a new section of the Iowa-Grant Panther Press. This will be a platform for School Board members to share some of the highlights from around the District. Here is what was submitted for the January edition:
Kristin Spurley
December is such a great time to marvel at the strength of our music program. The band and choir concerts at every level were superb. Especially loved the guitar performance at the High School Concert! How many were surprised this group even existed? The elementary programs are always a huge hit. The hours of prep, practice and motivational speeches required from Ms. Gile, Ms. Wanie and Mr. Zwick make me wonder if they’ve found a way to invent extra hours in a day. The consistently high percentage of students involved in band and choir are proof we have something pretty special here.

We hope your 2020 is a year of innumerable blessings for you and your loved ones, good health & much happiness.
With appreciation,
Molly Leibfried, Britany Lynch, & Brenda Wasley

Way to Go 4th Grade!
Our 4th grade students and teachers would like to thank our families, friends and community members who donated to our holiday project to send care packages to Iowa-Grant Alumni serving overseas or in the United States. We have enjoyed the connection we have made with 4 Iowa-Grant graduates (so far) who are serving in the Army and Marines and welcomed the stories, information and pictures their families shared with us. We are so proud of their bravery and so thankful they chose to serve our country.
