Thesis
In the early 1850's, christianity had a great influence in slaves' lives in that it provided them with hope and a reasons to continue living harsh lives.
A man in his darkest hour, being whippedA man in his darkest hour, prays tA man in his darkest hour, which helps him endure the pain of the process.
This is a slave's vision. The fact that he visualizes an angel over one of his friends shows the influence of Christianity in this man's conscious thought.
As a slave lies almost dead, he prays to god and is saved from dying. Shows how Christianity saved this slave's life by giving him hope.
