Social-Emotional Screener for all 2nd-5th Grade Students
Next week the window opens for our winter SEL Screener: ECRA. Please see the information below from David Chiszar, Executive Director of Assessment and Accountability, regarding the ECRA social-emotional screener. The screener is for remote and in-person learners, and in-person students will participate in the survey during the school day.
St. Charles Community Unit School District 303 strives to provide all students with the best opportunity to succeed academically, socially, and behaviorally in school. As part of this commitment, District 303 is enhancing our Multi-Tiered Systems of Supports (MTSS) across the district for the 2020-2021 school year.
This year, students in grades 2-5 and students in 6-12 will be completing a universal screening tool to assess their academic, social, and emotional learning skills. The use of universal screening allows us to refine and strengthen our efforts to help all students achieve success by taking positive and preventative measures as early as possible. This also provides us with the opportunity to assist students who may need additional support with academic, social, and emotional learning.
One of the universal screening tools used by the District is the ECRA SEL Survey, which focuses on the following areas:
- Responsible Decision Making
- Self-Regulation
- Social/Relationships
The ECRA SEL Survey will be completed three times this school year. The first one was completed in the fall. Students will complete the mid year check between January 18 and January 29. The third check will be April 26 through May 7. If a screening shows that a student will benefit from additional skill development, parents will be contacted and will work in collaboration with school staff to problem-solve and determine next steps.
Additional information about this screener and other assessments in District 303 may be found on our website at https://district.d303.org/departments/assessment. Thank you for your support and assistance in ensuring each of our students has the opportunity to achieve academic and social-emotional success.
Please feel free to contact your building principal or me (David.Chiszar@d303.org) if you have questions.
i-Ready Information
Over Winter Break you should have received your child’s results for their i-Ready Winter Diagnostic assessment. As a building, we use i-Ready data for a variety of purposes: establish areas of strength in our learning and instruction, identify areas for growth, establish our students’ individualized learner pathways when they are engaging with the i-Ready lessons during class time or at home. In addition, i-Ready data helps guide the conversation when identifying students who may need more intensive support, instruction, feedback, opportunities to learn, etc. while also identifying students who may benefit from enrichment opportunities.
I encourage you to references to two resources below should you want to learn more about the i-Ready assessment:

Kindergarten Registration
Kindergarten Registration officially opens on Tuesday!! Due to COVID-19 health and safety guidelines, the registration process will look very different than in years past. Registration will entail a brief, virtual preferred, communication between the parent and the main office. The registration window runs from January 19-March 12. Please reference today’s detailed communication regarding the registration process for specific questions. Feel free to pass along the dates to any friends or neighbors you know will have a kindergarten student next school year.
COVID-19 Parent Certification
Continue to complete the COVID-19 online survey AND sign the luggage tag insert that is attached to your child's backpack each morning. By completing both actions, our morning routine runs very smoothly, and students are ushered into the building promptly, without delays. This allows students to start their day positively, without any unexpected setbacks.
Meal Distribution
Meal pickups are still available at Munhall every Monday and Thursday from 2:00-3:00.
Due to no school on Monday, meal pickup will be on Tuesday and Thursday next week from 2:00-3:00.
No School on Monday
There is no school on Monday in honor of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.
Have a wonderful three-day weekend!

Lip Sync Fans!
Have no fear. The Lip Sync will persevere!
It will look different this year but we are still going to have a lot of fun. This year’s show will be moved to the late spring to encourage acts to be outdoors (in much warmer weather.) Acts will still sign up for a song and list their performers but it will all be done virtually. There will be exciting twists and turns throughout the show. More information to come!
MIDDLE SCHOOL TRANSFERS - REQUEST PERIOD OPEN FROM FEB. 1 - FEB. 26
Families who wish to submit a Middle School Transfer request may do so beginning February 1, 2021. Families must complete a separate form for each student they want to be transferred. Requests are granted based on space available. This means that siblings are not guaranteed placement. A written decision will be communicated to families before spring break.
Once the request is approved, a student may remain at that middle school throughout his or her middle school career, as long as the student resides in District 303.
Families of students granted permission to attend a school outside of their assigned attendance area are responsible for their own transportation.
Students will return to their assigned attendance area high school regardless of the middle school attended.
The Middle School Transfer request window will close at 4:00pm on February 26, 2021.
If you have questions, please contact Tammy Marsan at: 331-228-2397.
