Principal Message: We Need Help - Subs Needed!
There is a labor shortage that has significantly impacted our daily lives, and GRE is no exception. GRE (and DCS, in general) is having a hard time finding subs to fill teaching absences.
If you are interested in subbing at GRE/DCS, you can click on THIS LINK from the Educational Service Center of Central Ohio with more information and the application process. There is training involved, but it is not extensive.
We are fortunate to have a dedicated staff that makes every effort to be at work. However, illness, family illness, or other circumstances require staff absences. Even with our dedicated staff, we are still struggling to fill those absences. Thanks for considering being a part of the GRE sub team.
On another note, this week, we installed the gift from last year’s 5th graders. Each year, a PTO parent committee works with the outgoing 5th grade students to decide what lasting gift they want to leave for GRE. Last year’s 5th graders voted to donate 2 TVs for the learning commons, with additional funding from the school.
Those TVs were installed this week to the delight of the students. They display current pictures of students and events, information about celebrations of the month, (National Hispanic Heritage month, for example), and questions or topics for students to discuss and connect at lunch. Thank you to last year’s 5th grade committee and PTO for a great addition to the school.
Lastly, if you’re following along with my burger tour of Columbus with my teenager (from a previous principal message), the burger at Revelry (near AMC Theater) is the winner so far. They have a seven dollar burger night on Tuesdays, which may have slightly influenced my enjoyment.
Thank you,
Pete Kurty, Ed. D
Principal

Harvest Party: Oct. 28 - UPDATE
Clarification about harvest parties: Last week, there was a statement in the harvest party information about parades which should have been removed. DCS elementary schools will not be conducting parades, but students are welcome to dress up on the day of the harvest party on Oct. 28
You can see all the harvest party information HERE.
GRE Lost & Found
It's that time of year where kids are bundled up in coats and hats for the morning commute, only to find them in t-shirts and shorts by the time they come home!
Check out the GRE Fall Lost & Found and have your children stop by the table outside the clinic to claim their items. Unclaimed items will be donated on 10/14.
Veterans Day Celebration 2022
The students and staff of Glacier Ridge Elementary are excited for our annual Veterans Day Celebration. This year our celebration will be held on Friday, November 11th at 9:25 AM. Veterans, as special guests of our Glacier Ridge students and staff, are invited to attend. We will honor our veterans with an assembly, followed by a brief reception on the playground. GRE students are encouraged to invite a family member who is a veteran.
In preparation for this day, we ask that anyone in our GRE family who would like to bring a veteran, please RSVP. This will allow us to properly plan for and recognize each of our guests.
RSVP before Wednesday, November 2 by completing this form.
PLEASE NOTE - Registration is necessary in order to plan appropriate seating and support. Family members are welcome to attend along with our veteran guests; however, seating may be limited for additional family.
It’s Getting Colder - Temperatures are FALLing
It was a beautiful week for outdoor recess. However, fall weather varies greatly. Some days are in the 70s and some are in the 50s. It is always good for students to be able to plan their clothing appropriately for the weather. However, in the varying weather conditions, they might need some help. Have a conversation with your child about the weather each morning so they have appropriate clothing to stay warm.
Dublin Support Association Food & Toy Drive: Nov. 14 - 18
Dublin Support Association has once again partnered with the Dublin City Schools Transportation Department to sponsor a Food and Toy Drive. The drive will support the Dublin Food Pantry and the Washington Township Fire Department.
Students can bring a non-perishable food item or a new toy to donate between November 14 - November 18th. The containers will be in the GRE commons.
The Fall Scholastic Book Fair will be held October 10th-Oct. 21st in the Glacier Ridge Library Media Center!
Students will be previewing the Book Fair October 10th-13th and making their Wish Lists during their library class time. Then, students will return to buy their books from Oct. 17th - 21st during their library class period.. The Scholastic Book Fair will also be open to families on Thursday, October 20th from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m.
Family Conference Information - Virtual or In-Person
Our family conferences are coming up on October 20 & 26th. We will offer both in-person or virtual options. Your child’s teacher will reach out soon (if not already) to begin scheduling your conference. Cramming all conferences into a two evening window can often feel rushed. Therefore, in addition to those dedicated two evenings, we have a month and a half long window for teachers to conduct conferences with families.
During conferences, your child’s teacher will address three main criteria:
What I know about your child as a learner and a person
Evidence of ways I’ve gotten to know your child using formal and informal data
Next instructional steps for instruction
If you have specific questions about your child that you want the teacher to prepare for and address within the allotted time, please reach out to let them know.
3rd grade OST ELA Testing
3rd graders will participate in the OST for ELA (English Language Arts) will be on Wednesday, October 19 and Thursday October 20th. The test is broken up into 2 parts. We appreciate your attempts to ensure that your child is present at school on those days. If you know you will be absent please let your classroom teacher know. Makeup Testing will occur the following Monday and Tuesday.
