SOARING EAGLE NEWS
March 2019
Principal Points from Mrs. Hill
Hello Families,
As we move into these final months of the school year please keep an eye on student agendas, our website, as well as school messenger. There are many exciting events coming up in these final weeks of school and we do not want you to miss out on any of them.
We are proud of all of our intermediate students for working hard to prepare for the upcoming FSA testing which will begin in April and continue into May. A more detailed schedule will be sent out soon informing families of the days we will have closed campus during FSA testing. Having a quiet, closed campus provides our Eagles with the optimal testing environment. Thank you for your understanding. I would also like to remind everyone that we are still teaching and students are still learning in preparation for the next grade level. Our focus is on the importance of arriving to school on time so that every child has the best opportunity to make academic growth and gains.
Our construction project is in full swing. A new 12 classroom building is scheduled to be ready for students in August 2019. This building will eliminate the portables we currently have on campus. We hope to gain some additional parking and possibly a recess area for students. Those decisions will be made as the project nears the end. We appreciate everyone’s patience and flexibility with the additional construction equipment and traffic on campus. We continue to maintain a safe and secure campus during this project.
We still have many activities planned for the remainder of the school year and invite you to join us! Stay tuned for more information about these events. I wish you all a fabulous Spring Break and look forward to seeing our Eagles back on March 18th.

The chorus students will conclude the program with a Hero theme, and should wear their usual white top and black pants uniform. Parents should plan to stay for the entire program which should conclude about 7:30 pm. After the performance, the 1st and 2nd grade students can be picked up from the chorus room, and the chorus students can be picked up from the lobby of the auditorium.
Mrs. Richter, the music teacher will be e-mailing parents of 2nd grade students with a speaking part in the next couple of weeks to ensure they practice at home with the script and attend the performance. If you have any questions, please e-mail Mrs. Richter at richtere@pcsb.org.

Dear Volunteers,
Spring is in the air and the end of the school year is only about 13 weeks away! Please see the list of needs and dates below and let us know if you can help. Also, please continue to enter your volunteer hours. Last year we had over 13K volunteer hours, so far this year we have only recorded around 6K. Remember, every hour counts whether it’s helping out from home or in the classroom, even attending meetings or helping our wonderful PTA. If you have any trouble logging your hours and you would like me to enter them for you, please send me an email to let me know how many hours you volunteered, what you did and the location of the activity. Instructions are attached and are also available on our website.
Some of the upcoming class field trips require Level 2 volunteers. Level 2 is required when you will be unsupervised with our students, it is an added background screening through the FBI and requires fingerprinting that lasts for 5 years. For information about obtaining your Level 2 clearance, please follow this link: https://www.pcsb.org/Page/12334 there is an additional waiver form that needs to be completed and returned to me. This process may take up to 10 days, please contact me at shipleyk@pcsb.org to follow up at that time and to get the waiver form. If you are already a Level 2, please check your badge for the expiration date in case you need to be fingerprinted again.
We are still in need of mentors/lunch pals. Mentors are another caring adult in a child’s life, to listen and encourage them. They meet once per week during the student’s lunch. Please R.S.V.P. for this month’s webinar to take the free district training required to be a mentor at the Office of Strategic Partnerships - Tel: 727-588-5050 or email: robergem@pcsb.org , the webinar is scheduled for Thursday, 03/07/2019, 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. – Attendees will receive an email the day of the workshop.
State testing is just around the corner! We will be restricting* access to our school during testing in order to provide a quiet school environment and to offer our students the best opportunity to succeed. We will need volunteers to proctor in classrooms that are testing. A proctor is an extra set of eyes in the classroom who is available to assist the teacher during unforeseen circumstances (i.e. a student becomes ill) A proctor may not be related to any student within the grade level they are proctoring. There will be a brief training required and scheduled with those who sign up. Please review the testing dates listed below and let me know if you are available to help. All testing will be in the morning, so plan on 8:45 AM until 12 PM:
- Tuesday, April 2nd – 6 proctors each for 4th and 5th grades for a total of 12 proctors needed**
- Wednesday, April 3rd - 6 proctors each for 4th and 5th grades for a total of 12 proctors needed**
- Thursday, April 4th – 7 proctors needed for 3rd grade, volunteers can’t be related to a 3rd grade student
- Wednesday, May 1st – 6 proctors each for 4th and 5th grades for a total of 12 proctors needed**
- Thursday, May 2nd - 6 proctors each for 4th and 5th grades for a total of 12 proctors needed**
- Tuesday, May 7th – 7 proctors needed for 3rd grade, 6 proctors each for 4th and 5th grades for a total of 19 proctors needed**
- Wednesday, May 8th - 7 proctors needed for 3rd grade, 6 proctors each for 4th and 5th grades for a total of 19 proctors needed**
- Thursday, May 9th – 6 proctors needed for 5th grade, volunteers can’t be related to a 5th grade student
- Friday, May 10th - 6 proctors needed for 5th grade, volunteers can’t be related to a 5th grade student
**Note: Volunteers related to one of the grade levels will be placed in a different grade, for example a 5th grade parent would be placed in a 4th grade classroom.
