Westwood families,
We have a whole new look for some of our furniture. Students in our 8th grade Spanish I in Profe Holhen and Señora Lewis’s classes have been designing and painting chairs. The chair painting has been an interdisciplinary project that combines art, cultural traditions, and language. When they are finished, the teachers will use them for seating in their classrooms! It has been a busy year and taking a break in one of these chairs is just what our kids need.
The last days of school are quickly approaching! Due to continuing COVID guidelines we are not planning any school-wide celebrations or off-campus field trips this year. We are planning to play BINGO in the cafeteria during all lunches on the last day of school where students can earn prizes. Additionally, we will work with our EFL teams to play virtual BINGO.
Students will follow their typical schedule the last week of school. Teams will be coordinating any end-of-year activities while continuing to follow our health and safety guidelines. These include:
- Any food must be prepacked. Students cannot share community food.
- Students must stay in class/team groups.
- No off-site activities.
- No parents or other visitors.
- Masks are required for indoor activities.
- Physical distancing at a minimum of 3 feet.
It is great to see more faces out and about, and we’re all excited to leave face masks behind. For now, however, schools must continue with health and safety efforts through the end of the school year. This includes wearing face masks following clarifications from the CDC and our state departments of education and health. (Primary reasons given by the CDC are the recency of 12+ vaccines being available and vaccines not yet being available for younger students.)
The CDC is expected to issue updated guidance for summer and next fall in the coming weeks. We are hoping to hear good news about continued loosening of restrictions and news that also will keep our students and staff safe as we plan for next year.

Vaccines available for people 12 and older
