Mrs. Hladun's Tidings

We hope you are enjoying your winter holiday and that 2021 brings your family joy, happiness and health! A reminder that we are still on break on Monday, and school resumes on Tuesday, January 5th!

We have about 20 students joining us for on campus learning starting on Tuesday - please be patient if there is a bit more congestion that usual before/after school for a few days.

If your child is ill or has been exposed to COVID over the holiday break, please keep him/her home on Tuesday. Please also fill out this 'intake form.' This information will help us be planful as we look to reopen school on Tuesday. Once you complete it, someone from the district office will be in touch with you within a day or so to check in and establish next steps.

Make Up Picture Day - Th., 1/7

In Person Learners: If your student attends school in person and he/she missed our original picture day or he/she needs a make up picture, we'll do those the morning of Th., 1/7. We will be sure any children who missed picture day are photographed, but if you are seeking a make up picture, give us a call in the office so we can be sure to pull your child out of class for a photo.

interCONNECT Learners: If your child is participating in interCONNECT and missed our first picture day, we'll be taking make up photos on Th., 1/7 from 12:30-2pm. Although you can come at any time, we invite you to come based on your last name so we can minimize congestion and support social distancing. Everyone must wear a mask (although students will remove it for their photo!).

  • 12:30-1 pm: last names beginning with A-F
  • 1-1:30 pm: last names beginning with G-M

School Safety Plan

Each year, we review our school safety protocols as a site and as a district. You can check out our safety protocols for 2020-21 and learn more about our School Response Protocol here.

At our PTC meeting on Thursday, 1/28 at 5:30 pm (online - link TBA), we will be reviewing the safety plan and formally approving it. Please join us, as your input regarding our safety priorities is valuable!

Meal Distribution

Our district is moving from twice a week meal service to daily meal service. If your child is receiving meals, he/she will get a box with one lunch and one breakfast in it on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. On Fridays, the meal will include 3 breakfasts and 3 lunches and will be a little bigger. This service is 100% free to all WPUSD families and is not need based. If you want to sign up, visit this link.

2nd Grade Families - GATE Testing

If you have a 2nd grader, please be sure to look for an email that went out on 12/30/20 with details about how we will be administering the GATE test for in person and online learners. We'll be giving the GATE test on January 12th and 13th. If you did not get the email, let us know [email Jen (, Pam ( or your child's teacher] and we can forward the information to you.

If you have a student who will be in Kinder in fall 2021, you MUST register him/her, even if you current attend TK at LCES.

On Monday, January 11th (in English)/Thursday, January 14th (in Spanish), the district is hosting an online info night about TK and K. From 5:30-6:00, the focus will be on TK, and from 6:15-7, the focus will be on Kinder registration and the Bilingual Kinder program at COES. If you are interested in attending the information meeting, you are encouraged to RSVP here so that you don't miss any details and you get the link for the meeting once it's published. To RSVP, visit this link!

A reminder that online registration opens on Mon., January 25, 2021 and all registration materials must be received by Fri., February 19th, 2021 at 4 pm to your home school office.

Contact us with any questions, or visit the WPUSD website/registration page here!

Feel free to share this info with any friends, neighbors or relatives who have students who are TK or K aged, or who have older children looking to enroll in WPUSD schools!

FAQ RE. TK and K:

How do I register? As you know, our district uses an online system for enrollment, and that system will go live on Monday, 1/25/21. All enrollment packets must be turned into your home school (which may or may not be LCES) by Friday, 2/19/21 at 4 pm. You can find all of the information about enrollment at, and click on the "Enroll Now" box.

Is my child eligible for TK or K? Our Transitional Kindergarten program is for children who turn 5 between 9/2/21-1/31/22. Kinder is for children who turn 5 on/before 9/1/21. These are pretty hard rules, but if you have questions, contact Scott Pickett at the District Office (916 645 6350) or Jen Hladun at LCES (916 434 5292).

What are the times for TK? I anticipate our Transitional Kindergarten program (your child must turn 5 between 9/2/21-1/31/22) will be a half day program, but I do not yet know if we will offer AM, PM or both. Those decisions are made later in the spring and are driven by enrollment in our program.

What are the times for K?
If your child is Kindergarten age (your child must turn 5 on/before 9/1/21 to qualify) we are excited to offer an extended day program beginning in the Fall 2021. School will run from approximately 8:15am-1:40pm; students will eat lunch on campus.

I am hearing about a bilingual education program???? Our district also offers an amazing Bilingual Immersion Program for Kindergartners. This program is housed at Creekside Oaks Elementary School. Placement in this program will be based on a lottery, and you can elect to participate in the lottery when you complete your enrollment materials.

How can I learn more about TK and K? The district is hosting a virtual information meeting on January 11th (in English)/January 14th (in Spanish). Info about our TK program will be shared at 5:30 pm, info about the Kinder and Bilingual program will be shared at 6:15 pm. Consider joining the conversation so that you are well informed and prepared for the registration process - RSVP for the info meeting here! The link for the Facebook Live event is here.

If your child is currently in grades K-5, his/her registration for the 2021-22 school year will automatically be processed.

  • Students in grades K-4 will be enrolled in a class at their home school for next year. This is Lincoln Crossing for most of our families. You do NOT need to do anything at this time.
  • Students in grades K-4 who are at LCES on an inter- or intra-district transfer WILL need to fill out a form if you chose to stay at Lincoln Crossing. The form is online and is available on Tuesday, 1/5 here.
  • Students in grade 5 will automatically be enrolled at Twelve Bridges Middle School (which is our community’s Middle School per the boundaries). You do NOT need to do anything at this time.

Students going to TBMS next year will have the opportunity to learn more about what to expect later this spring. I do not have the details about that yet, but as soon as we have more information, we will pass it along to you!
