OLVCS Updates
February 19, 2021
Dear Parents,
Lent is a period of fasting, that begins with Ash Wednesday and ends with Easter Sunday. The length of the Lenten fast was established in the 4th century as 46 days (40 days, not counting Sundays). During Lent, participants eat sparingly or give up a particular food or habit. Lent began as a way for Catholics to remind themselves of the value of repentance.
In this age of doing things just to "get likes" and "follows", it is important to keep in mind that Jesus told his disciples: "Be careful not to do good works only so other people will see you doing them and praise you. Your Father in heaven sees what you do in secret, and he will repay your good works. When you pray, do not show off so others will see you. Pray to your Father privately, and your Father, who sees what you do in private, will repay you. When you fast, do not look gloomy so others will see that you are fasting and be impressed. Your Father in heaven, who sees your hidden fasting, will repay you." (Adapted from Matthew 6:1-6, 16-18)
As a school family, we will be taking time to focus on Jesus’ death and resurrection. This will include discussions and projects in class and school-wide devotionals. We already celebrated Ash Wednesday, albeit a little differently--having the ashes sprinkled on our heads, rather than place in the image of a cross on our foreheads.
Taking on the heart of Jesus,
Chad Packer, MEd
Principal, OLVCS
Catsup, Mustard, and Ranch! Oh, my!
Thank you to all donated to our Catholic School's Week Condiment Collection. In total our school was able to donate 1447 pounds of condiments and other food products to the State College Food Bank. That’s three-quarters of a ton!!!
The State College Food Bank gives condiments out as part of every grocery distribution.
"We go through condiments quickly and usually have to purchase items like ketchup, mustard, and mayonnaise about once a month," wrote Virginia Meadows, the State College Food Bank Operations Manager. "Your collection should keep our shelves well-stocked for several months!"
It's Re-Enrollment Time!
As we turn down the straightway of the current school year, it is time to start preparing for the 2021-2022 school year. On that note, NOW is the time for you to complete your student(s)'s re-enrollment in SchoolAdmin.
Re-enrollment must be completed for all students at all grade levels who will be returning to OLVCS in the Fall. Re-enrollment includes completing your student(s)'s 2021-2022 tuition contract and other important forms.
