Here's what's happening in MS this week!

Dear parents,
This is the last week of the 1st marking period! There will be an iReady K-8 math parent night on Tuesday, October 29th at 5:30. Come learn about our new math program.
ENGLISH
6th Grade: We will be wrapping up our first reading unit next week. Students will be given a reading assessment where they will need to focus on character attributes, conflict, both internal and external, scenes and narration and plot and provide examples in the stories they read. We also will finish out 10th vocabulary word but will not have a quiz on it until the week of the 28th. We do, however, have a spelling test on the 25th.

8th Grade: Rough Drafts for the Hero essays will be due on Monday, October 28. We will have some class time to work on it the next week but students will need to work on it as homework. We are currently studying independent and subordinate clauses, phrases, and sentence types. The last day for the Million Word Challenge is Friday, October 25.
SOCIAL STUDIES
6th Grade: We will be moving over to South America to explore how elevation affects the conditions of a place. There will be another set of vocabulary to study posted in Google Classroom World Geography. List 3 will be posted at 8am on Monday along with a clickable map for South America.

MATH
6th Grade: We have been solving problems involving unit rate and the lesson quiz will be this week. Next we will be working on percents which will end our first unit that we’ve been studying since September. iReady time 45 minutes a week.
7th Grade: We had an integer operation quiz last week and this week we will focus on terminating and repeating decimals, with a quiz towards the end of the week. IReady time is 45 minutes a week.
8th Grade: 8th graders have a quiz on Monday over operations with scientific notation. We will have an important unit test this week worth 25 points. IReady time is 45 minutes a week.
SCIENCE
6th Grade: We have started our discussions of Ecosystems with identifying biotic and abiotic factors in a Michigan ecosystems. We will be continuing our exploration this week by looking at the flow of energy in Michigan ecosystems, in particular “Who eats what?” or ``Who eats who?” We also have Mrs. Brown coming in Tuesday and Wednesday this week for Kids in the Kitchen.
7th Grade: The students have a BIG project due October 25th. It is the culminating project for waves and it will be worth a lot of points. Please ask your student about it. It is called the wonderful world of waves. We will be beginning our next unit on physical and chemical properties next week too.

ART
8th Grade: We shall be doing a short little colored pencil project and working to get in any late work in our last week together.
PE
6th Grade: The last week of 6th grade PE will include health related fitness testing (cardiovascular endurance, muscular endurance/muscular strength), a new striking and fielding/target activity, and 2 invasion game activities. Please continue to encourage an hour of aerobic activity and 3 days of muscular endurance/muscular strength building activities.
