Enhance Your Lecture!
Rather than lecture, teachers can use their resources (such as a Google Slides presentation) to screencast themselves explaining content. Teachers can do this for free using Screencastify (check out the previous newsletters to find out about Screencastify and other screen casting applications) Teachers can post the screencast video on their Google Classroom so students can benefit from their instruction multiple times.
Guided Notes
Guided notes sheets help students who struggle with taking notes during a lecture. Many students have trouble with structure - so share a guided note sheet with bold headings and tables to organize notes. These guided notes sheets are easily made into hyperdocs (see the picture below to find out about hyperdocs) with links to further resources such as websites, YouTube videos, and other Google Drive files. Click on the link below for an example of a guided notes sheet.
Spicing up the conventional lecture, a combination of screencasting and guided notes sheets allows students to watch the video lecture at their own pace on their devices as they complete the guided notes sheet in Google Docs. Thanks to Google Classroom, all student notes sheets are in one place for the teacher and student. No more missing notebooks and students asking for pencils. Students can watch the video on their Chromebook while completing the guided notes sheets.
