Safety Drill a Success
Parent-Student-Teacher Conferences Start Thursday
Our first of two sessions for drop-in Parent-Student-Teacher (PST) Conferences is this Thursday, September 19th from 3:30-6:30 PM. The second conference session is next Monday, September 23rd from 3:30-6:30 PM. To balance our attendance, we are hoping those with last names A-K attend this Thursday and last names L-Z attend next Monday. Of course if the plan does not work for your family, you are welcome to attend the alternative night.
Students, you have some work to do to prepare for the event! The initial conference activity is a student accountability review. During HR this week, you will complete reviews which include a look at grades, attendance, behavior, NWEA and personal observations and goals. Because you initiate the conference with the accountability review, it is critical that you attend the conference and that you bring your iPads!
When you arrive for conferences, report to your team table located in your classroom area. You'll introduce your home adult to the teachers and you'll pick up your colored accountability guide as well as your NWEA family report. Your teacher will assign you to a classroom where you will deliver your review to your home adult. After you are done sharing, your adult will ask you to bring teachers into the room for a chat. Your adult may want to talk to one teacher or many. If the teacher you need to see is in another chat, you may need to wait a few minutes. The amount of time you spend at SMS will be influenced by the number of people attending at the same time and the number of teachers with which you want to speak. All families should plan to spend at least 45 minutes at the event.
If you bring a home adult to the conference event, you'll receive some benefits. First, you'll demonstrate maturity by leading a discussion of your strengths and goals. You'll also receive two Warrior points- one for Accountability and one for Involvement. And finally, you'll receive a free slushie ticket to be used at the school lunch of your choosing!
School Pictures Wednesday
If your family plans to purchase a photo package, you can order online from the SMS web page or you can bring your photo flyer envelope (with money) and hand it to the photographer.
