Integumentary System
By: Monet Riddick
Nervous Tissue
1) generates and transmits nerve impulses to and from body organs via neurons
2) some cells (neuroglia) support, insulate, and protect neurons
*nervous tissue is located in important places like the brain, spinal cord, and nerves
Connective Tissue
1) connects, binds, and supports structures
2) protects and cushions organs and tissues
3) extra cellular matrix can bear weight, stretch, and take abuse
-adipose: insulates and stores fat
-blood: transports substances
-bone: provides framework and protection
*surrounds and found between organs and is the most abundant tissue found throughout the body
Epithelial Tissue
1) protection- skin
2) absorption- stomach and intestinal lining
3) filtration and excretion- kidney
4) secretion- glands
5) sensory perception- if innervated
*is the main tissue of glands and covers the inside & outside body surfaces, including organs
Muscle Tissue
Function(s):
1) body movement
2) moves blood, food, and waste throughout the body
3) synchronous contractions of heart beats
*associated with skeletal bones, heart, and walls of hollow organs
