Welcome Back
Happy 2019! We have one full week under our belts and are on our way to a strong and positive beginning. It was wonderful to see everyone's smiling faces. Both students and staff seemed to enjoy the break with family and friends and many were ready to return to Lincoln School to learn and re-establish routines and be amongst our friends.
January is a full month with many learning opportunities for both staff and students. At the end of the month, students will have the opportunity to extend their learning through After School Enrichment. Registration is currently open and the link is embedded in our PTO newsletter which is attached below. Teachers will be involved in continuing their learning during next Friday's School Improvement Day, on January 18. Students in grades second through fifth grade will take performance series assessment in the upcoming week. This midpoint assessment will help guide our instruction and see the growth that has been accomplished so far this year.
Our 90th planning committee has met and decided on two dates to celebrate the rich history and community of Lincoln School. The first date will be on the anniversary of the Lincoln School opening. We will have an assembly and celebration for all students and staff on Thursday, March 21. The second date will be a celebration of Lincoln School during the evening of Thursday, May 16. We are interested in spreading the word and communicating with former students of all ages. If you know of any alumni please let them know. We are also interested in involving those alums throughout the spring for various events so our students can learn about what Lincoln was like during their school years. If you have any friends, family, neighbors that previously went to Lincoln please have them contact me via email at michelle.woodring@d303.org so we can involve them or invite them to our celebration in May.
Coming up this month…
PTO and After School Enrichment
Our PTO has been hard at work to set up enrichment opportunities for our Lincoln students. These activities will be offered after school from January 28th – February 8th. These wonderful opportunities are not possible without the support of our many volunteers.
Kindergarten Registration
It is that time of year again for Kindergarten registration. If you have a student that will be attending Kindergarten during the 2019-2020 school year, or know of a family/neighborhood friend who does, please see the attached information.
5 essentials Survey
Every year, District 303 conducts a satisfaction survey eliciting feedback from our students, teachers, and parents. This year, as part of the Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA), we will now be participating in the Illinois 5Essentials Survey. As a parent or guardian, this survey will provide you with the opportunity to share your thoughts on important elements of school effectiveness about your child’s school.
We value your feedback and appreciate you taking the time to provide us with your suggestions for improvement. Your identity and survey responses will be kept completely confidential and will never be connected to you or your child. To take the parent survey please visit https://survey.5-essentials.org/Illinois/ and select the appropriate survey.
Calling All collectors--It is your chance to put them on display!
We will begin to use our hallway display case to showcase student’s
collections. We have several different collections in the case currently to
give students an idea of some things they can bring in during their
designated week. Sign-up will occur on a first come first serve basis and
will begin the morning of Monday, January 28th. Please come to the
office and let us know you are interested and we will sign you up for a week. Several students
will share the display case at the same time, and the case has sliding glass doors which are not locked so please do not bring extremely valuable collectibles. Collections are brought to
the office on Monday and picked up on Friday after school. A
notice will be sent to you notifying you of your assigned week. We look
forward to seeing all of the interesting collections our Lincoln Students
have. I have highlighted our first collection that is currently on display from our resource teacher Mrs. Notto--Wow her collection is big--do not feel that you need to have such an expansive collection, your child's collection may only fill up one shelf or part of a shelf that is fine--we just want to want students to have the opportunity to share.

Great news! It's not too late to sign your child up to see our Smile Dentists. The in-school dental team will be here at Lincoln on Thursday, January 31, 2019.
Taking care of your child's teeth is important to keep them healthy. This convenient dental exam will fulfill Illinois State requirements, check your child's mouth and teeth, as well as provide a cleaning, fluoride treatment and apply sealants, as needed. This dental care opportunity is usually at no cost to you. All insurance is accepted including Medicaid and CHIP. For those without insurance, a low-cost self-pay option is available.
We have received a tremendous response this year. Permission forms were sent home in December. Please contact the Lincoln Health office at 331-228-2504 if you need another form or you may sign your child up online at www.MySchoolDentist.com.
