CHS Choir Update
Summer Check-In with Mr. C
Highlights
We will sing.
We will connect and build relationships.
We have a plan to promote safety within our space.
We care about you.
We Will Sing!
First and foremost, we will be singing this year. While our goals and the way in which we unite our voices in song may be different, vocal development and student performances will occur. Regardless of the format in which instruction will be delivered this fall, all students enrolled in the CHS Choir Department will be provided with a variety of opportunities to connect with their instructors and participate in instruction. We are committed to making sure that students have access to both digital tools and print materials to support their learning and growth throughout the year. More information about how students can access these learning tools will be released in the coming weeks.
Relationships are Essential!
In addition to these commitments, we also recognize that the interpersonal connections developed through participation in choir are critical to our student's development as singers and young people. Opportunities to share, connect, and develop these relationships through music will be a key element in our learning model this fall. Digital socials, conversations, and in-person gatherings (when practical and possible) will be used to help knit our students together into a larger and caring community of young people.
Our Commitment to Equity in Instruction
When we are able to return to in-person instruction, every effort will be made to provide a full and flexible learning experience for all of our students. We are working hard to develop an instructional model for choir that can be easily adapted for in-person and online instruction that is inclusive and mindful of the variety of situations in which our students may be learning.
Increased emphasis on smaller ensemble performances and the use of technology in the classroom will allow us to engage in performance-based learning opportunities while still promoting safety and limiting student contact. Some exciting initiatives we are currently exploring include the live-streaming of classroom/concert performances, inviting guest choirs and clinicians to work with our students from abroad, and the creation of a piano lab in the choir room.
Our Commitment to Safety
Student safety and social/emotional wellness will always be a priority in the decisions made for students in our program. Safety protocols and guidelines for the use of PPE within the classroom setting are being developed in conjunction with our district leadership team and local health officials to ensure that students who choose to engage in face-to-face instruction are well cared for during their time on campus. Policies and procedures will be updated as information from our state and local organizations is made available throughout the year.
We are Here for You
Regardless of what the new year holds, we are here to serve you and support you in your growth as a young person and musician. While many things will be different this yea, I know that we will rise to the occasion and will thrive in spite of any challenge that may lie ahead. Please communicate any questions as they arise and I will do my best to answer them or point you in the direction of someone who can
I look forward to seeing each of you very soon. Please look for more information about summer learning opportunities and more information about our plans for students to be released in the next few weeks.
Warmest Regards and Many Thanks,
Mr. Cooley
