INTEGRATING TECHNOLOGY: Step by Step
Many teachers struggle with where to start when integrating technology.
The SAMR Model is a step by step process designed by Dr. Ruben Puentedura specifically for educators to help us integrate technology in our classes. The model's simple design helps educators to build their capacity to better understand the complexity involved in successfully moving toward the implementation of technology in the classroom.
SAMR Levels
Substitution
Defined: Technology acts as direct tool substitute with no functional improvement.
Example: Work can be completed without the use of the technology, including: word processing, digital worksheets, submitting essays and worksheets; printed assignments.
***This SMORE format is also an example of substitution.
Augmentation
Defined: Technology acts as direct tool substitute with functional improvement.
Example: Work requires technology to be completed, including: Digital worksheets that require students to collect online information or resources provided by the teacher; worksheets submitted to teacher’s electronic/digital drop-box. Students may begin online communication or collaboration with other students (ex: online discussion.
Modification
Defined: Technology allows for significant task redesign.
Example: Work requires students to effectively search for and collect online resources that they share with the teacher and other students (ex: online academic bookmarking, online discussions); students regularly collaborate (either face-to-face or digitally) with other students and/or experts; students communicate with others about their learning. Students begin to use their ‘voice' to share their learning ideas with the teacher.
Redefinition
Defined: Technology allows for the creation of new tasks that were previously inconceivable.
Example: Student work requires technology use so that students can complete tasks previously not available (tasks that would otherwise be inconceivable for teachers or students).

NRT - DataManager Report Training for Teachers (2nd - 5th)
NRT results are available in DataManager.
DataManager may be accessed by teachers and administrators and allows for
analysis of data based on two broad categories:
test takers – individual students or groups/subgroups of students; and
time span – historic performance, current performance, and predicted performance.
The offerings listed below will focus on teacher level access to student reports. For both individual and groups of students, the training will emphasize reports to support the following testing purposes:
identifying strengths and weaknesses;
informing instruction; and
utilization of learner profiles to personalize instruction.
