Principal's Message - October Already?

It is hard to believe we have completed a month of school and what an exciting month. Not only have we made many new friends and learned interesting new things, but we have had a delicious spaghetti dinner, a visit from the fire department (a good visit - it was planned), and our first field trip (our 4th graders went to the Milwaukee Symphony). Thanks to all our parent and teacher volunteers that made our Spaghetti dinner a success, and thank you to all the parents who introduced themselves to me at the dinner. It was a wonderful event to kick off our school year.

As the weather gets a little chillier, our Lost and Found seems to grow a little bigger each day. When you stop by school, please check the Lost and Found for missing hats, gloves, mittens, sweatshirts, and jackets. If we find a name in a jacket, we can get it right back to its owner. Without a name, it goes into the Lost and Found.

With a great first month behind us, we are all looking forward to an exciting and wonderful year.

Please review this flyer for more information on past and upcoming events.

Maple Grove Sets School Goals

While we always set goals for your children to learn and grow, we also set goals to learn and grow as a school. This year Maple Grove has set three goals to help us serve our students more efficiently. We are working on goals in three areas, collective ownership of learning, academic growth, and school culture. A short description of the goals are below.

Collective Ownership of Learning - Maple Grove will be centering our work on answering the following questions:

  • What do we want students to know?
  • How will we know they know it?
  • What will we do when students do get it?
  • How will we do when students already got it?
  • What strategies will we use to ensure growth for all?

Academic Growth - Maple Grove will implement Readers Workshop with fidelity so that students engage in goal setting for improved reading habits and comprehension. We will monitor this growth through formal tests in the classroom and teachers observations.

School Culture - Maple Grove staff will use an educational concept known as Professional Learning Communities, so our staff can have more productive conversations when discussing student needs and instructional strategies.
