From The Principal
Friday, August 7th was a fantastic day! Collins homeroom teachers began calling their families at 9:00 AM and didn't finish till 4:00 PM. What we believed would take a few hours in the morning took the day because of the needed and important conversations shared between teacher and family.
The teachers shared how important your conversations were to them. They felt your positivity, kindness, and encouragement for this new school year. Our hope is you felt the same way. If your child's homeroom teacher was unable to reach you they left messages and tried several numbers through the course of the day. We know families' schedules are very busy and demanding and apologize if we were unable to make connection. The homeroom teachers and learning communities will be sending an email at 3:00 PM on Monday, August 10th for our "Virtual" Meet the Teacher. This will be your child's opportunity to see and hear from teachers and other Collins staff via video.
Our experiences Friday taught us we need to update our plan for the "First Day of School". A description of "First Day" is found later in this newsletter.
Together we are learning the truth that "The only thing constant in life is change" especially during this most unprecedented time. Thank you for taking this crazy roller coaster ride with us - there is no other with whom we would rather take the trip!
With Warm Regards,
Shelli LeBlanc

Counselor Update
Hi everyone,
We are so excited to be getting closer and closer to the beginning of school, and we can’t wait to finally be able to work with your students.
We know that your family’s needs may be changing rapidly, and we want to remind you that we are here to help. If you require any assistance, including food assistance, clothing assistance, counseling resources, or something else, please fill out our Google form. This will let your child’s counselor know that you need something, and we will assist in any way we can. You can access the link here. If you need food assistance, we are also including a list of Mobile Markets in August. You can access that link here.
Nurse Kendall Update
The following is from the Conroe ISD Roadmap to Reopening website regarding masks and medication:
Students in third through twelfth grade are required to wear a cloth mask/cloth face covering or non-medical grade mask while at school unless they provide a written medical exemption from a physician. The CDC has indicated that it is unknown if face shields provide any benefits as a source control and are not recommended as a substitute for cloth masks/face coverings or non-medical grade masks. However, TEA has indicated that students can wear full-face shields in lieu of masks. Students whose families do not want their child to wear a cloth face mask/cloth face covering, non-medical grade mask, or face shield for any reason other than a medical reason should select the Remote/Online Instruction option for their child.
Any medications used to treat symptoms consistent with COVID-19 such as cough, shortness of breath, headache, sore throat, and body aches will not be administered without a current healthcare provider’s note. This would include metered dose inhalers, cough and cold medications, acetaminophen, and ibuprofen. At this time, nebulized medications will not be administered during the school day.
