News From Room 106
January 22, 2024
Families,
I hope you all are having a great start to the new year. It sure has been a crazy one with all of the snow days in a row! It will be nice to be able to get into a routine again with the students!
We want to welcome Mrs. Groenenboom back from her maternity leave! We have both loved sharing stories and photos of both Charlie and Wrenley with the students.
As a reminder, please be sure to let us know if your student is in need of any snow gear.
Thank you,
Mrs. Arends

Inside the Classroom:
Math
We are closing in on our area module. We are planning to test on Friday, January 26th. Students will come home with a review on Thursday that we completed in class. Students have been working on finding the area of composite shapes. They have been doing this by completing the shape and then subtracting the extra section. They have also decomposed the rectangle into two parts, found the area of each, then added the two areas together. After our assessment, we will move onto perimeter.
Language Arts
This week, students have completed their research paper on the planet of their choice. These are hanging in the hallway so that their peers can read their work. They did an awesome job! This week, we have moved to our next unit of Folktales and Myths.
Science/Social Studies
Students are learning about why the French wanted to explore the Great Lakes. They will learn the impact Father Marquette had on the develop of the Michigan area and Great Lakes.
Black Folder
We are reviewing finding the area of rectangles and composite shapes. We are also continuing to review multiplication and division facts.
