Player News!

Hello Families,

Happy December! I hope everyone had an enjoyable Thanksgiving weekend with family and friends. It is such a nice holiday that reminds us to be grateful for one another and to reflect on our own blessings!

Thank you to all the families who participated in parent/teacher conferences last week. As a school, we had over 90% participation from all of our families, which is amazing! It really shows just how much our families support their children and realize how important their education is. We are all very grateful to you for this partnership!

The weather is certainly getting colder and we will continue to go outdoors as long as it is not raining (or snowing) or too cold. Please make sure to send your child in appropriate outerwear, including hats and gloves when needed. Also, if you haven't already done so, teachers would like for you to send in a set of clothes for the classroom that are for colder weather. They will return the set of clothes you currently have for your child.

Please read through the entire newsletter to learn about other news coming up at Player School this month!

Smore Newsletters

Newsletters will continue to come to you all year through this same website, Smore Newsletters. Please make sure to read them for all updated things happening at the school. Don't forget to "LIKE" the newsletter if you found it to be informative.

Big picture

Getting to Know You

If your child has recently enrolled in Player School or if you haven't already done so, please take a moment to fill out the form below to provide us with a little more information about your child. It will also ask about other adults who are allowed to pick up your child. We will not dismiss your child to anyone who you have not indicated as an alternative pick up person besides a parent. You will also have an opportunity to submit any questions you might need to know prior to our orientation days.

Note: If you already filled this out from the previous time I sent it out or from our website, you will not need to do it again.

Cookie Dough Fundraiser

The cookie dough fundraiser was a huge success! Thank you to all the families that sold to their friends and families. The orders will be delivered to Player School during the week of December 12th. As soon as I know the exact date, I will notify all of you who were sellers so you can arrange to pick up your orders. We usually recognize and give a prize to the top three sellers, but we had several who sold A LOT so we decided to award the top 5 sellers. The following students' families were the top 5 sellers:

  • First Place Seller: Retaj Abuawad, Room 5 PM 85 units sold
  • Second Place Seller: Mila Garcia-Karpiel, Room 8 AM 74 units sold
  • Third Place Seller: Michael Sladkowski, Room 8 AM 72 units sold
  • Forth Place Seller: Penelope Torres, Room 6 PM 57 units sold
  • Fifth Place Seller: Jacob Reyes, Room 1 PM 51 units sold

There were 24 other sellers who also sold a variety of units and we appreciate ALL of you for doing so. The profits will pay for all the students' t-shirts and other program amenities throughout the year. Once again, THANK YOU and we hope you enjoy the yummy products!

Parent Corner

Today's message in the parenting corner is to remember to create positive, consistent rules for your child. All children will make attempts to "test" the adults in their lives. They are exploring their boundaries and will take whatever you allow. This is natural. It is your responsibility to set boundaries for your child and make sure they know and understand your expectations. Be consistent with your follow through and consequences, if necessary.

Parenting is HARD! But the more effort you put forth in the front end, the better your child and you will benefit!

If any of you have parenting concerns, issues with your child, or questions on how to handle situations at home, please reach out to us. We can arrange for you to meet with our team who can support you with suggestions and ideas. Please email our Parent Coordinator, Sue Penway at spenway@isd109.org.

Upcoming Parenting Events

Book Club

A flyer will be sent home next month to invite you to attend a Parent Book Club. This will be an evening event where a group meets once a week for 5 consecutive weeks as they explore a topic of child development. Please watch for this invitation if this interests you.

Blanket Making

There are still a few spaces left to participate in the blanket making activity on either December 6th or December 13th. This event is also sponsored by our Parent Coordinator, Sue Penway, with the goal of introducing a fun activity for parents to make and take for their child. Please call or email Sue Penway at spenway@isd109.org.

Help Wanted

School District 109 is still looking to hire paraprofessionals and substitutes. If you have at least 60 hours of college credit, you can apply for a paraprofessional license. If you have a bachelor's degree, you can apply for a teacher substitute license. If you are interested in hearing more about either of these positions, feel free to reach out to me. I can guide you to how to obtain a license or answer any of your questions.

Wishing you all a Happy and Healthy Holiday Season and the most Wonderful New Year ahead!
