Brentwood Elementary Mission Statement
~Achievement~Actions~Attitudes~
Have a safe and fun Labor Day weekend!!!
A Note from the Principal...
Greetings Parents:
We have now completed the first four and one-half weeks of school. Students are fully in-step with the routines and procedures of our school. After the first few weeks of school, we sometimes find that students’ learning curve slows a bit. Here are some great ways you can help:
· Maintain a regular schedule at home. A regular bedtime is critical. We see many students appearing to be very tired in the mornings. Remember, Sunday night is a school night.
· Many of our students are involved in extra-curricular activities in the evening which we support. Help them complete homework earlier so they can have dinner and rest afterward.
· Read with, or to your child every night. Discuss what you have read with them. Ask open-ended questions such as “What will happen next?” "How would this be different if…..” Contact the teacher is you have any concerns or questions.
Car Rider Pick-UP
Thank you for cooperating with us in changing the car pick-up lanes to only one lane. This is a safety concern. We want to do all we can to maintain a safe area here. Also, please make sure you use the crosswalk if you are walking your children across the traffic lanes. Again, this is a safety issue. We want our students to develop safe habits.
RTI – What is it?
RTI is an acronym for Response To Intervention. This is a universal part of the curriculum in all of the Plainfield schools. This is an opportunity for students who qualify to receive additional instruction in reading and mathematics. This program helps these students “catch-up or keep-up” with their peers. If you are contacted by your child’s teacher about participation in the RTI program, this is a GOOD thing. It means we are doing everything we can to make sure your child is being successful in school.
Parent Conferences
Parent conferences will be coming soon. We will be using a NEW way of scheduling these conferences through the internet this year. We will have more information soon and will give you plenty of time to process it. It will be important that you initiate the conference as soon as the window is open. Parent Conferences are October 22nd. More information will be coming soon.
Sincerely,
Mr. Underwood

Book Buddies
Staff MVP of the Week ~ Mrs. Darlene Eberhardt, Technology Assistant
Mrs. Eberhardt has been married for 11 years and have a step-daughter, (Selena, 21) that lives in Florida who graduated from Plainfield High School; two sons who attend Clarks Creek Elementary School (Gabriel, 10 years old in 5th grade), and (Nathan, 8 years old in 3rd grade). The Eberhardts have two rescue pets also: a tabby cat named Shadow and a Great Pyrenees/lab mix named Toby.
Some of Mrs. Eberhardt's Favorites:
Color ~ Periwinkle
Movie ~ Lord of the Rings Trilogy
TV Show ~ Breaking Bad-sad it's over! Greys Anatomy-Scandal
Book ~ Shantaram
Music ~ 80's/Rock
Flower ~ Tulip
Restaurant ~ Palomino
Candy ~ Anything chocolate
In her spare time Mrs. Eberhardt enjoys gardening and baking. She cites her trip to South Mexico to Yucatan Peninsula-near the Mayan Ruins as being the most interesting. "It was a neat place to stay because the resort is carved out of the jungle. There were wild monkey's, peacocks, flamingos, iguanas etc. roaming the grounds. Monkeys would come and sit up on the hotel balconies. Super cool. We also met a Mayan (employee) that lived with his family in an actual cave! I'd love to go back."
What is a student moment you remember fondly? "It's hard to pick one particular moment, volunteering in my son's classrooms the past 5 years has really been rewarding, I'm excited about this new position and the time I'll be spending in the lab with students."
As a parent and an elementary school employee, what advice do you have for parents on how they can be involved in their child’s education? "Be present, check folders and assignments that they are bringing home. Ask them about their day and what they learned...check PowerSchool on a regular basis!"
***fun Mrs. Eberhardt fact*** We've traveled to Las Vegas by car the past 3 years. We have family that lives in Henderson just outside of Vegas. It's such a beautiful drive-we take 70 and route 66. The kids really enjoy the scenery, it's a learning experience for them.

If you child is being dropped off late an adult must come into the office and sign them in.

If your child rides the bus to school and will be eating breakfast in the cafeteria please talk to them about going straight to the cafeteria to get their breakfast. This will give them the most time to eat as healthy of a breakfast as possible.Dismissal Changes:
- If you need to change your child's dismissal instructions the best way to do this is to send a signed note to your child's teacher.
- If this is impossible please call the office NO LATER THAN 2:30 p.m. to ensure the dismissal change gets to your child's teacher in a timely matter.

Value of the Month "Integrity" Student - May 2015 - Ava Becker
She makes the choice to tell a teacher when she has made a mistake so she can resolve the problem quickly. "One time, I forgot to collect money from her and she brought it to me anyway! When she finds something that doesn't belong to her, she finds the owner. Ava is an excellent example of integrity because she makes the right choice 0 usually the hard choice - when no one is watching. I know that I can always depend on Ava to be honest!" says Miss McNeely.
