Principal's Note...

Dear Thornhill Families,

I hope everyone is doing well. Believe it or not we are just past the half way mark for this school year!

For Families Needing Support: I know that many communities in Northern California are concerned about recent developments from ICE (Immigration and Customs Enforcement). As you may know, OUSD is a sanctuary district and we are a sanctuary school. Our staff are trained in supporting families that may be affected. We are here for any family that should need our support. OUSD has resources for parents and families.

Drop in hours: If you would like to meet with me regarding family support with ICE, please see me on Monday or Tuesday at 9:15am. You can also schedule an appointment to meet with me via Sherry or Zettie in the front office.

Other assistance: Local organizations providing support: Centro Legal de la Raza offers multiple immigration clinics and ”Know Your Rights” training to the public. Call (510) 437-1554 to check on the date of the next session.

I hope you have a restful weekend,

Mr. Daubenspeck

Presidents' Note...

Hello Thunderbirds,

On behalf of the Parent Faculty Club (PFC) it is with deep regret that we announce the departure of one of our community members and staff. Our wonderful librarian of 8 years, Maura Hennessy, will be leaving Thornhill for a new opportunity. We are thankful for her time and passion of reading she has invested in our children.

As many of you know your contributions allow the PFC to fund this position; however, it does not come with the option of benefits. We are so grateful for her time at Thornhill and understand her need to move on.

On behalf of the PFC and the entire Thornhill community, we will miss you Maura and wish you the very best in your new position and all your future endeavors! More information will come next week regarding the transition as we process this news. Please read the note below from Mrs. Hennessy.

Best Regards,

Shanyn and Shauna

Dear Thornhill Community,

I am writing to say goodbye and thank you. I have been offered an amazing library position with benefits, and I’ve accepted. My last day at Thornhill will be Friday, February 2.

I’ve had some great times at the school—first as a parent and then as your librarian. Thornhill will always be a special place for me and my family. I will miss the students, staff, and the wonderful Thornhill community very much. Thank you for your support throughout the years and please continue to support the fabulous Thornhill Library! It’s a real gem.

All my best,

Maura Hennessy

More Auction News...

The auction is now officially less than one month away. Have you gotten your tickets, yet?

NO? Well...What are you waiting for?

Get your tickets here (discounted through January 31!) and get ready to have more fun than you probably have any right to at Thornhill's Heroes and Villains auction on Saturday, February 24, from 6-11 p.m. at the Ascension Cathedral Community Center, 4700 Lincoln Avenue, Oakland.

Meet with your friends and make new ones. Enjoy a night with other school parents and with your child's teacher. This is a great opportunity to meet them outside the classroom.

Get you tickets here! We look forward to seeing you.

We need donations!

We need help soliciting additional auction items. Please consider spending some time making phone calls and ask for donations. Contact us at benefit@thornhillschool.org and ask for a list of potential donors.

Making a donation is really simple. Download the donor form or grab it from the office. Fill it out and put it in the blue folder in the office. We really appreciate it.

We need your wine!

We're starting to collect donated bottles of wine for the auction. If you have a great bottle you'd like to donate, or you're visiting a winery soon, or you just want to go to BevMo and get a bottle for yourself and one for the school for 5 cents, we'd love to have it! Please feel free to email benefit@thornhillschool.org to arrange dropoff or pickup. Thanks!

How can we help you?

You have a little business? Let the Thornhill Community know and buy an ad in our auction catalog! Just sent me an email at benefit@thornhillschool.org if you are interested or need more information.

Who will win your class basket?

Do you know what the theme of your child's classroom auction basket is, yet?

Well...Check with your room parent to get the details - you may have a great addition for your child's class basket and not even know it!

Class Baskets are a huge, exciting, and even slightly competitive part of the auction. They'll be on display the week before the auction. Let's see which classes raise the most with these goodie filled baskets of goodness.

Preparation is ongoing, so please contact your room parent or the Class Basket Coordinator, Lindsey Beallo lindseybeallo@gmail.com, for more information. Thank you!
