MA Art Classes Recognize Hispanic Heritage Month
Grade 8 art classes worked on a project to honor Hispanic Heritage month, inspired by first-generation Mexican-American artist Marisol Ortega. Marisol says she pulls inspiration from childhood memories of visiting her abuela’s home in Michoacán, Mexico and uses art as an exploration of her culture. Students were challenged to use a limited color palette and showcase their culture through the subject matter of food.

Grade Seven and Eight Students Visit Huntingdon Library
Mrs. Balin's 7th and 8th grade Reading Classes visited the Huntingdon Valley Library on Thursday, September 29th. The youth librarians shared information on the amazing teen programming and gave a tour of the library. In addition, students completed a scavenger hunt in small groups, received their own library cards, and were given time to peruse the library to take out books. September is Library Card Sign-Up Month, so this was a great way to encourage our students to attain a library card, get to know the local library and find out all that it has to offer our community. This is an annual field trip that the students really enjoy attending.
MA Students Enjoy Be Well Bakery and Cafe
Murray Avenue students enjoyed a walking trip to Be Well Bakery and Cafe at the end of September with Mrs. Cerruti. The students participate in a monthly Community Based Instruction Trip. These trips provide natural opportunities for students to practice skills that are essential for independence in the world today.
MA Library Gets in the Halloween Spirit
We kicked off the season in the library by adding Spooky Stations to our monthly book exchange with 6th graders. Mrs. Barnhart's class co-wrote supernatural book spine poetry, spun tales with The Hollow Woods story-starter cards, played Spooky Scattergories, created Edgar Allen Magnetic Poetry, and crafted haunting MadLibs.
Congratulations to Our Published Poetry Writers
Julia Cavallo (Grade 8), Sophia Ksenzenko (Grade 8), and Waverly Badour (Grade 7)!

FirstView Bus App for Families
Lower Moreland Township School District has partnered with FirstView which is an app for parents that allows for direct access to the status of your child’s bus. FirstView GPS tracks the bus on a map and allows you to set up a customizable geo-fence around your pick-up/drop-off location, so you can be alerted when the bus is close. You can customize your notifications on the app.
This is a free app for parents that can be downloaded from Google Play or the Apple App Store. Here are the instructions for getting started with the app: FirstView Bus App. The instruction sheet has the district code and a list of the bus routes that are needed to register. Using this app is optional. The district will continue to send Connect Ed notifications about the status of bus changes or significant delays.
Parent/Guaridan Information about Canvas
An observer can view and read announcements, view the calendar, and view assignment due dates. If you want to read more about the observer role, click HERE. There are instructions for how to become an observer on your child's account. Parents/guardians can be paired with more than one account if you have multiple students.

LMTSD Seeking Mentor Families
In our district, we are lucky to have students and families who are from diverse cultures. Did you know that in our district, we have over 30 languages spoken?
To better support our new families, we would like to invite you to participate in serving as a mentor. As a mentor, you would be responsible for explaining school routines and special events and answering any questions that arise.
For those families who do not speak English as their native language, working with a mentor family who speaks the same language could be very helpful in learning to navigate our school system.
If you are interested in volunteering your time, please complete THIS form. New families would contact you upon their arrival to the district.
Thank you for considering!
