The Battle of Cowpens was fought between the British and the Americans. The British army was led by Banastre Tarleton. The American army was led by Daniel Morgan. The British wore lots of green while the Americans wore blue. Morgan was determined to make stand by the Broad River. He positioned his army on two low hills in open woodland, thinking that Tarleton would attack without making a better plan instead. Morgan was correct about Tarleton's actions.
Morgan had a lot of riflemen and placed them all in the front. Tarleton marched his force into the battlefield, and attacked immediately. At the beginning of the battle the riflemen shot down so many British officers and destroyed the proper control of the British line. as the British foot attacked, they extended their line to the left. the Americans line caught up. the British line lost its cohesion as it hurried to pursue the Americans who halted and gave fire before the British could attack. The British line was overwhelmed and were forced to surrender. Tarleton fled off with the rest of his army and it was declared that the Americans won.
Activity 3 - Outcomes of the American Revolution
1783 - Treaty of Paris
Declaration of Independence
Global Impact
It had a huge global impact because people realized that it wasn't impossible to overthrow a oppressive government. It was an inspiration for France. Three major events had a great influence on Europe. The signing of the Declaration of Independence, implementing the ideas of Enlightenment and forming the US constitution. By declaring independence America demonstrated that it was possible to overthrow "old regimes". This was the first time a colony had rebelled and successfully gained their independence and rights to self govern. This inspired many European nations and colonies to revolt. The Declaration of Independence had a big global impact because every country wanted these new rights.
