Classroom News and Reminders
Snack- Please make sure that your child brings a small snack and water bottle to school each day.
Chromebooks- Charge those Chromebooks! I have very few outlets in the classroom that are accessible and there are a lot of students that need to charge their Chromebooks each day. Please make sure they are charged before bringing them to school.
Dojo , Planners and Smore- Please check Class Dojo and your child's planner each day. I will update the Smore every Sunday and will post the updated link on Dojo.
Staying Safe- We will continue to follow the three W's at school to make sure that we keep everyone safe. If your child has ANY symptom that seems out of the ordinary, please contact our school nurse before sending him/her to school. Please be sure that your child wears a clean mask to school each day.
Reading Homework- Your child should be reading for a total of 30 minutes each night. Please log the book that your child reads in his/her assignment book.
Your child is welcome to log in to Literacy Footprints each day to find a "good fit" book to read for 30 minutes. Every student has been shown how to access this program and find books that are on his/her level.

Have questions for the school nurse?
COVID - Please be overly cautious when considering when to send your child to school. It is VERY important that we all follow the guidelines when it comes to quarantining. If you have been around someone that is sick or has tested positive, please reach out to the school nurse to get information about what you need to do. Read over the attestation form each day to make sure that your child is healthy and able to come to school. Masks should be worn to school each day and washed in between uses.
Our school nurse Kimberly Sluder is here to help you navigate this challenging year. You can find her at school at 336-838-4261 or on ClassDojo. You can also reach her by email -- Nurse Sluder at sluderk@wilkes.k12.nc.us

Learning Targets
L.4 Determine and/or clarify the meaning of unknown and multiple-meaning words and phrases based on grade 3 reading and content, choosing flexibly from a range of strategies: context clues, word parts, word relationships, and reference materials.
RL.4 Determine the meaning of words and phrases as they are used in a text, identifying words that impact the meaning in a text.
RL.2 Recount stories, including fables, folktales, and myths from diverse cultures; determine the central message, lesson, or moral and explain how it is conveyed through key details in the text.
MD.5 Find the area of a rectangle with whole-number side lengths by tiling without gaps or overlaps and counting unit squares.
MD.7 Relate area to the operations of multiplication and addition.
• Find the area of a rectangle with whole-number side lengths by tiling it and show that the area is the same as would be found by multiplying the side lengths.
• Multiply side lengths to find areas of rectangles with whole-number side lengths in the context of solving problems and represent whole-number products as rectangular areas in mathematical reasoning.
• Use tiles and/or arrays to illustrate and explain that the area of a rectangle can be found by partitioning it into two smaller rectangles, and that the area of the large rectangle is the sum of the two smaller rectangles.
MD.8 Solve problems involving perimeters of polygons, including finding the perimeter given the side lengths, and finding an unknown side length.
