Our Highlights: What We've Been Rockin' At!
In writing we have been working on editing and publishing our Personal Narratives about an important moment in our lives. Check out pictures of the students editing using their Writer's Eyes Glasses (which help them be able to see all of the punctuation, grammar, and spelling corrections that need to be made). We will be publishing these writing pieces next week and students will have gone through their first ever full writing process.
In reading we are currently reading fairy tales. We have been focusing on identifying the problem, solution, characters, setting, and magical elements of the fairy tale Cinderella. We will be looking at fractured fairy tales (mixed up versions of the original fairy tales). Students are so excited to read the variations, The Rough-Face Girl, Sidney Rella and the Glass Football Sneaker, Seriously, Cinderella is So Annoying!, and many more (see the covers below).
In math, we finished up money and will continue to review it sporadically throughout the year. Please also continue to review coins and money with your child at home as well. Have them count the change at home or help you pay at the register and tell you what your change should be. We will be working on really solidifying the foundation of regrouping and building off of those addition strategies that are the needed foundation for most math concepts.
