MANDATORY DISCOVERY EDUCATION TECHBOOK PROFESSIONAL LEARNING
To prepare for the 2016-2017 implementation of the Science Discovery Techbook, the Department of Teaching and Learning, in partnership with Discovery Education, will provide a mandatory three-hour professional learning course for all K-5 classroom teachers and K-8 English second language (ESL) teachers. Additionally, the course will be open to, but not mandatory for: K-5 special education teachers, hearing impaired specialists, vision impaired specialists, library media specialists, and gifted resource teachers. A separate professional learning session will be offered to instructional technology specialists (ITS) and literacy leaders that will provide information on how ITSs and literacy leaders can support the implementation of the Discovery Education Techbook.
The mandatory three-hour course, Getting Started with Discovery Education Science Techbook, is being offered throughout the summer. In order to provide a variety of options for teachers, these courses will be held in both large and small group formats as well as being held at various locations throughout the city. Additionally, the course will be offered in grade level bands, K-1 and 2-5. Please note, the professional learning sessions for teachers at Digital Learning Anchor Schools will be posted in My Learning Plan (MLP) separately. The content of the Digital Learning Anchor Schools professional learning will be the same as non-Digital Anchor Schools across the division with slight differences to address various technologies. A schedule is attached for reference. Please encourage teachers to use MLP to sign up for the mandatory course. Questions may be directed to Katie Niehoff, elementary science coordinator, at 263-1020, or emailed to Kathleen.Niehoff@vbschools.com. Thank you.
Please see the email I sent on May 12 for more information.
