Mrs. Rhodes' Newsletter

Week of Monday, December 8th

A Peek In Our Room:

Writer's Workshop: We will continue to discuss what makes our writing easier to read. We have come up with a list of features that our readable writing has.
Features of readable writing:
-handwriting

-spaces between words

-organization

-stretching out sounds

-use of sight words

-small moment story

Reader's Workshop: Readers pay attention to the character throughout the whole story. Does the character go through any changes? Positive? Negative?
We will also be comparing and contrasting characters in our read aloud stories this week, most of our focus will be on the Gingerbread Boy/Girl/Baby/Pirates stories.

We will begin assessing reading levels, sight words, and math skills this week.

Winter Party

Our Winter Party is Friday, December 19th.
This day will also be an early release day at 12:40.

Our lunch time on this day will be 9:15 (haha) maybe we'll call it brunch?

Our party time is 9:50-10:20. Students will make a craft and have a snack. Parents are welcome to attend!

If you would like to check your child out early on this day (after party) please make sure that you sign out with me in the classroom first. Only parents can check out a student (no sisters/grandparents/uncles etc.) unless a written note is provided ahead of time to the front office. Please let me know if you have any questions about this!
