The War Cry
Everyone, Everyday; High Standards, High Achievement
Volume 16 - 17: Friday, March 10, 2017
Principally Speaking
Hello spring... I mean winter. Wait, I mean spring.
This weather is certainly crazy. We are all looking forward to spring's arrival and the quickly approaching spring break. Please talk with your students about staying focused for the rest of the school year. There is much more learning and testing that needs to be done before we close the books on 2016 - 2017. It is important to note that as of right now, there is no school on Friday, March 24th. That day was reserved to serve as a snow make-up day if needed. Since we have not used any snow days, there is no school that day. We all get to start our break one day earlier.
In the meantime, we are working very hard to make sure students are learning all the state standards in order for them to be successful on ISTEP+ prior to round two of testing. Please do all you can to be sure your students are in attendance at school every day and on time. A day missed can never really be made up to the quality that a student would receive if he or she was present to participate and learn from the teacher and classmates.
The next round of testing will take place "on-line", so this means that not all students can test at the same time. Students will have to cycle through the available computer labs over the three week testing window. The testing window opens on Monday, April 17 and closes on Friday, May 5th.
As always, I am honored and thankful to serve you and your students as the principal of Danville Community Middle School.
Sincerely,
Marsha Webster
Principal
13th Annual Dodgeball Tourney
The Annual DCMS Dodgeball Tourney will be on Monday, April 10th at 5:30 P.M. This will be our 13th year to host this fun event!
It is a fun-filled night with lots of action. We will have music going between games and as usual the concession stand will be open.
Entry deadline is Thursday, March 23rd (right before Spring Break) so please ask your son and/or daughter if they plan on playing. Teams can have 7th & 8th grade players, but no coed teams are allowed. All teams can have no more than six players, but may list up to two coaches on their roster.
The kids usually get excited to plan their team uniforms, but please remember all team names need to be approved by either Mrs. McGovern or Mrs. Hess. Please do not order shirts unless the team name has been approved.
We typically need 20 teams to pull this off. In the past we have always exceeded our goal, but right at the deadline so talk it up so we can have another successful tourney!
Students may pick up forms upstairs by the FACS room. Let us know if you have any questions.
