Peace, Love and Pastries... A No Place for Hate Initiative!
This month, we are focusing on promoting peace, love, kindness and celebrating our differences at Fort Mill Elementary School. On February 14th from 7:00-8:00 am in the cafeteria we will hold an event for students and parents. This project will directly connect with our No Place for Hate initiative. There will be a photo booth for parents and students to enjoy and celebrate their time together. Doughnuts and fruit will be provided for a light breakfast. Gluten free options will be served as well for those with allergies. Please use the pink RSVP form sent home in last week's Wednesday folder to indicate how many adults and children will be in attendance and make sure you turn in your forms by February 6th.
If you are unable to attend the event with your child, there will be an activity and discussion about peace and love that will be completed in every classroom. Each teacher will receive a Valentine’s Day themed background to use to take pictures in front of with their class.

It's Report Card Time!
Q2 Report Cards and Parent Portal:
The 2nd Quarter has come to a close and report cards will be sent home with students on Thursday, January 24th. Report card time is often when parents seek additional ways to support their student(s) to ensure academic success. Parent Portal is an excellent tool that allows you to view overall grades as well as individual assignment grades. You can also view your child’s attendance record.
Many Parents have already created an account and are familiar with Parent Portal. For our 2nd grade parents, this is first year that you will access Parent Portal to view grades. You must have the school-issued User Name and Password to setup an account.
If you are unsure of how to access Parent Portal or Add a Student, please contact Donna Jackley at JackleyD@FortMillSchools.org or at 548-8290.
For K and 1st students, you may wish to set up an account for future use. You are only able to view attendance and the student’s schedule for Kindergarten and 1st grade students – grades are not available until 2nd grade.
For Mobile Users: *There is also Parent Portal App for Mobile Phones. Search for it using “Powerschool Mobile” as the search words. The District Code is: MRDR.

Author Patrice McLaurin, via Google Hangout, will present her book Have You Thanked an Inventor Today? and engage students in a literacy discussion and related activity. Attendance Matters!
Attendance: 5 Unexcused Absences = Truancy
This is the time of year that Absences begin to add up. Whether your student is absent due to illness, family travel or other reasons, please remember that:
5 Unexcused Absences = Truancy per SC State Law
What you can do to avoid Truancy :
1.) Schedule Family Vacations while school is not in session.
2.) Email/Phone or Write Parent Notes to Excuse your child when he/she is ill.
3.) Send in Medical Excuses if your child sees a Doctor.
4.) Respond to Attendance reminders from Mrs. Jackley.
5.) We miss our students when they are note with us. Please let us know when they will not be at school.
That's all for now! Have a Terrific Week!
