Goal for the Week: Personalized Learning Time

LEAD 2021 Learning Plan Strategy: We will facilitate a process that carries out the development, implementation, and realization of a personal learning plan which includes goals in the areas of academics, campus activities, and workforce/community involvement for every student to accomplish the GCISD mission and strategic objectives.

Excel affords us a sacred time during the school day to assist students in reaching their academic personal learning goals. During this time, students are working on goals they have identified or you have identified with them. This is a time to extend and remediate learning for all students. Thank you for using this time to work with small groups of students as they strive to make academic progress and for differentiating for the unique individual needs of terrific Texans!

Remember to...

  • Have one representative from your team attend PTA Thursday night.
  • Post the blurb regarding ornaments in your newsletters this week. Thank you!
  • Let Lisa know your plans for extended PLC the first week of December.
  • Wear red, white, and blue OR a BES shirt on Fridays if you are wearing jeans. Thank you for promoting BES spirit!
  • Complete your energy sheet before leaving for Thanksgiving break. Copies of the sheet will be in your box on Monday. Please tape the sheet outside your door.
  • Use the crosswalk when walking through the parking lot.
  • Use schools.clipart.com for free, legal clipart!
  • Smile! You make a difference in our Texans' lives!

Celebrations

  • Thank you, thank you, thank you to everyone for the WONDERFUL Veteran's Day celebrations! Thank you Leigh, Ally, Sue, and Sandy for the time, talent, and passion each of you put into the program! Thank you classroom teachers for the amazing circle up preparation and discussion! Thank you Denise and Shelly for the warm smiles and greeting for our countless guest on Wednesday! Thank you Abbey for leading the KC club, our fabulous student leaders on Wednesday! Thank you second grade team for preparing your students for the program!
  • Snuggle Up and Read was a HUGE success! Thank you Raschel for keeping the book fair open late for our shoppers! Thank you Abbey, Jennifer, Sandy, Lisa, Tonya, Wendy, Corrie, Patti, Jeanette, Jan, Lauren, Susan E., Hayden, and Alecia for taking time out to support our young readers!
  • Thank you for taking time out to complete the textbook inventory!

Dismissal

Thank you for all you do to ensure our students get home safely. There is great synergy among teams as we get bus, daycare, walkers, riders, and those not sure out of the building safely. I appreciate each of you for maximizing instructional minutes and exiting the classroom after the 2:45 p.m. bell rings!

At front dismissal, please:

  • Have your walkie-talkie with you
  • Have the students stand as soon as their names are called
  • Have students cross to the other side as soon as their names are called
  • If you are close to a car, open and close the car door for the student(s)

Sick Leave Bank

Membership in the GCISD Sick Leave Bank will be open November 16 - December 11

. The Sick Leave Bank can provide employees with additional leave for serious illness or injury for themselves and/or family members. A one-time donation of personal leave days (Local or State B) is required to join the bank.

There are two levels of membership. 1) Regular membership is available to any employee that serves in a position that is eligible for Family Medical Leave (FMLA). Please refer to Board Policy DEC(LEGAL) for eligibility requirements for FMLA. The employee must have been employed by GCISD for at least 12 months and have worked a minimum of 1,250 hours in the last 12 months. 2) Reduced membership is available to employees not eligible for FMLA. This level applied to employees who did not work the required 1,250 hours in the last 12 months. An example of employees who qualify for the reduced level includes, but is not limited to, newly hired employees, some bus drivers, bus monitors, nutrition workers, part-time positions, job-share positions and positions working less than 12 months.

If you do not elect to join at this time, you will not have another opportunity until the next open enrollment period in the fall of 2016.

If you are already a member of the Sick Leave Bank, please disregard this open enrollment announcement.

Note Regarding Recycling

Hi Faculty and Staff,

At the beginning of the year I passed out log sheets to all teachers for students that turned in recycling items. Please send in any sheets that have students names as soon as possible to the PTA box in the mail room. Also turn in any remaining t-shirts that may be hiding in your classrooms.

Next week we will be collecting toothbrushes, toothpaste, and batteries to be recycled to celebrate America Recycles Day. Please have all students who bring in items write down their name on a NEW Recycling log. There will be a class participation contest, so next Friday I need you to bring down your logs and turn them in. We will have a party with the class that has the most participation after the Thanksgiving day break.

Students will also have pledge cards that they can write their name on and turn back in for a raffle to win Mountasia passes for their family. Please bring these to the mailroom PTA box as you receive them and turn them all in by next Friday too. These will also be put on display in the hallway after the break.

Faculty and staff are encouraged to fill out a pledge sheet too. Everyone should be receiving one in their mailbox today. These will be displayed with the student's pledges!

Any items that students bring in can go in the paper bag I passed out at the beginning of the year or any of the collection containers around the school hallways that say recycling or "waste collection here". Each hallway should have a collection box, if anyone has the First grade and Second grades box in their classroom please return them to the hallway. If they are missing, let me know and I will get another one out on Monday.

If you have any questions, please email me at noahsmommy15@gmail.com

Thanks for all you do!!
