Weekly Update 1/30-2/3

VD Dance 2/10 @6-8 PM, Benchmark Exams 2/9-16; Track Begins

Parent Volunteers Needed; Gently Used Uniforms Needed

Warriors,

Can you believe the month of January is almost over? Yes, it is and the month of February is filled with a lot of academic and extracurricular activities- testing, dances, CFA etcetera. We are 10 days away from taking our District Benchmark exams. It is essential for our scholars to attend school daily. We are a TEA B Rated campus with two Distinctions. We want to sustain our rating and move from a B to an A. We can only do that if you send your scholars to school and remind them their education is most important. Please support our educational practices and discipline protocols. Please require your scholars to adhere to the dress code (no hoodies and wear only gray, black or yellow shirts), attend all classes daily and afterschool tutorials. Our tutorial schedule is the same Monday through Thursday. Transportation is provided.

Parent Volunteers Needed

Could we please place a blurb in the newsletter for parents to sign-up to volunteer?

Want to advertise your school appropriate business with us?

Looking for vendors? If you have a business that is school appropriate and you would like to sell or promote your products during our next school wide event, please complete the link below. Cost of participation is $25 and all proceeds will go towards school wide fundraising. Please contact Mrs. Davis at ndavis1@springisd.org for more information.

We need your gently used uniform tops and jeans!

If your scholars have gently used TCMS school uniform tops and jeans, within dress code, that are too small/big for them, please send the uniforms/jeans with your students in support of NJHS uniform swap clothing drive. All clothes can be dropped off in the bins labeled clothing drive in the front office or on the stage in the cafeteria.

Valentine's Day Dance Behavioral Requirements 2/10 from 6-8 PM

Anyone who is assigned EC or Suspension for any reason, including dress code violations, between January 24 through February 10, will not be allowed to attend the Valentine's Day dance. There will not be any appeals as your scholars are reminded daily via the PA system and in the cafeteria by their grade level administrators to behave appropriately and to adhere to the dress code. They cannot wear hoodies and white shirts.

School Quality Survey Launches Tomorrow, 1/30/23

Parents, we need to hear from you. Our school quality survey will be emailed to you by the district. The survey asks for your input on safety and behavior, student support, academic preparation, family involvement, and school leadership. The survey is offered in English, Spanish and Vietnamese. We need at least a 90% participation rate.

Chew Chat & Review- Parent Conference Day 2/17

Parents, please start planning now to attend our Spring Parent Conference Day scheduled for Friday, February 17, 2023. You may begin scheduling your parent conferences now from 9 am until 2:30 pm to ensure you receive your preferred time slot. We are planning two large information sessions (11 -12:15 and 12:30-1:45 pm) for ALL parents. Please plan to attend. Both sessions will include meaningful and relevant information to help you understand the new STAAR 2.0 assessments our scholars will begin taking in April. STAAR has changed to STAAR 2.0 and it is more challenging. In addition, we will be providing lunch snacks for you. You may dine with us during the sessions or grab your lunch to take home or back to work with you. If you attend one of these two sessions, your scholar will receive a Free Dress pass and a grade of 100 to replace the lowest daily grade in any class (cannot be used to replace a quiz, a test or a major project/grade). If you have more than one scholar, we will stamp the passport for each one. Please click on this link https://forms.gle/fy4Hb8HgMQM

Tell Us: What Does Black History Month Mean to You?

As we approach Black History Month, celebrated nationally every February, we want to celebrate the voices and the diversity of Spring ISD. So we’re asking you: what does Black History Month mean to you? Answer the question in a few sentences and send it to communication@springisd.org, and be sure to include a photo of yourself. We’ll be sharing staff and students’ thoughts throughout the month of February.

End of Year Grade Level Activities Must Be Earned

Yes, we are already planning EOY activities. Remind your scholars that this is a privilege and it must be earned. Any grade level with significant discipline issues school wide and with high absentee rates, will have their activities canceled. In addition, scholars with persistent or significant behavioral issues/concerns will NOT be allowed to participate. Parents, we are providing this information to you early so that you may address your scholars now and encourage them to behave according to our Student Code of Conduct.

Discipline

Encourage your scholar(s) to behave daily as we are focusing on instruction. In addition, remind them that riding the bus is a privilege, not a requirement. They must respect their bus drivers and behave appropriately on the bus as it is crucial to their safety. Scholars who misbehave will not be allowed to participate in any activities that TCMS will sponsor regardless of the circumstances. Please ask them to report their concerns directly to an administrator, counselor, teacher or anyone your scholar has a relationship with to ensure we help them resolve their concerns appropriately. Remind them that students who fight at TCMS, will receive a Complaint Form that will require the student and the parents to attend court. NO FIGHTING AT TCMS!!!

Wishing everyone a safe and dry week,

Principal Shelby-King, Ph.D.
