March Newsletter
MISSION: IGNITING A PASSION FOR LEARNING
Message from the Principal
Dear Families,
It is hard to believe it is March, this school year is moving quickly, however, there is still time to help your child finish the school year strong! We know Spring brings new sports seasons and new routines after school and weekends. Add time for homework and studying right away to help set your child up for success.
Forward Testing:
Forward testing is the state testing that is completed yearly. This year we will be testing during the weeks of April 4 and April 11 as a whole school in the areas of Math and Language Arts. Eighth-grade students will test the following week as well, testing Science and Social Studies. We will be offering extra time for breakfast these mornings. We encourage students to have their water bottles and to get a good night's sleep during testing. These tests can take a lot of brainpower so we want to be at our best!
*Students do need earbuds for testing. We sell them in the office for $1.00 if your child needs a pair.
Tissues:
Thank you to everyone who sent in tissues! We appreciate it! We are still taking donations of tissues if you can help out.
Outdoor Recess:
Just a reminder that we do go outside every day. We understand that wearing a jacket in middle school isn't always a popular option, but we do encourage students to bring their jackets and hats! We are outside for a short time, but we want everyone to be warm! Students do have an opportunity to go to their lockers before and after lunch to get their things and put them away.
Great things happening at KMS:
I wanted to take a moment to share some of the things that have made KMS a better place this past month:
*Be the Change Club- planned and led activities to help build community at our school.
*Hoops for Heart- Our students were AWESOME during the basketball event to wrap up the fundraiser. Our 8th-grade students set an amazing example of what it looks like to have school spirit and support your classmates during the game.
*More times than I count I have witnessed or heard about a student helping another student or adult. I have seen the messages getting sent home celebrating these little gestures. These little things add up quick
Have a question or concern, please feel free to reach out anytime.
Sincerely,
Mrs. Skelton
Elementary Transition Update
We have created a web page to communicate with staff and families on the Elementary Transition process. There is a link on the top navigation bar on the home page or you can click here. We have an FAQ on the website that includes questions from the staff, family, and community listening sessions. As we receive more questions, we will add them to this document. We also created a Rumors document to address some of the rumors that have been circulating, and we will update this document as needed.
One of the questions that many people have asked is related to what the District plans to do with the property. The Board decided to put the property up for sale. We will be posting a sign in front of the building concerning the sale of the building, as well as placing advertisements in the local newspapers and on our website. We will be collecting closed offers until April 29, 2022, which the Board will review at the May 12 Board meeting. At that time, they will have the opportunity to make a decision if they would like to accept any of the offers received.
We have opened up our window for Parent Initiated Requests for an Intra-District Transfer a little early this year. If you are interested in putting in a request, please contact your building principal for more information.

Student Services Updates
The week of February 14, KMS Be the Change Club led several activities to promote community building and appreciation. The week kicked off with a "Share the Love" activity. All of our KMS Students/Staff took a moment to share what they LOVE about KMS by filling out a What I love about KMS Heart. After completion of all the hearts, the staff displayed the hearts on their doors to remind everyone of all the love and support at Kewaskum Middle School.
The 6th-grade guidance lessons focused on rumors and gossip. We read a book called, Mr. Peabody’s Apples that explained the importance of not judging others before we know the truth. We then did an activity with glitter to show that gossip is like glitter, it spreads quickly, you can’t control where it goes, and it creates a big mess.
The 7th and 8th-grade guidance lessons focused on Healthy vs Unhealthy relationships. Students were put in groups to teach the class about the topic that was assigned to them.
