Kingsley Connection

A weekly newsletter from the Kingsley Administrative Team...

November 28th, 2021

Dear Kingsley Families,

We hope you had a wonderful Thanksgiving. The holidays are upon us. We hope to see everyone on Saturday for our annual Pancake Breakfast & Holiday Gift Shop! Click here or read the information below to find out more details about the event.

Our revised arrival entrance plan begins tomorrow. Students will enter through grade level doors instead of classroom fire doors. Grades K-1 will enter door 2 (primary playground side) and grades 3-6 enter through doors 4, 5, or 6 (see below) which are all located on the East side of the building (intermediate playground side).

See you tomorrow,

Mel Hackett and Eleni Gajewski

*REVISED* Building Entrance Procedure During Student Arrival

(Repeat Information...Reminder this starts tomorrow) ...

Beginning November 30th, we will begin our revised building entrance procedure for students. There is no change for student drop-off. Students currently enter classroom fire doors for morning arrival. The revised plans will have students entering at the following locations:

Kindergarten: No Change (Continue using Door #2)

1st Grade: Enter through Door #2 (same as Kindergarten)

2nd Grade: Enter Door #4

3rd Grade: 3Boyle & 3Condon enter with 2nd grade in Door 4. 3Biederman enters Door #5

4th Grade: Enter Door #5 with 3Biederman

5th Grade: Enter Door #6 with 6th grade

6th Grade: Enter Door #6 with 5th grade

Why the change? There are a few reasons. Student safety in the classroom is the main reason. With the winter weather upon us, students will track in snow, mud, etc. into classrooms. Leaving classroom doors open in the morning also means colder classrooms. We will review this change and the expectations with your child(ren) next week.

Anonymous Reporting Form: "See Something, Say Something"

Students in grades 4-6 will soon have access to an anonymous reporting form to report behaviors like bullying, safety, etc. concerns. Kingsley social worker and psychologist will visit classrooms in the coming weeks to introduce the form to students. This is simply an added layer to the other proactive measures that are already in place to keep our Kingsley students safe. The link will also soon be available on our Kingsley School website.

(Repeat Information) Staff Parking Lot Safety Reminders

This is a reminder that we ask all families to not parking in any staff parking lots during arrival or dismissal. We are seeing an increase of parents using the parking lots. This a safety concern for our students. If parking is required, we encourage families to utilize Powell (North of Norfolk) or Barrett (North of Norfolk). Thank you for your help!

(Repeat Information) Winter Weather Recess Guidelines

Please remind your child(ren) of our District 58 recess guidelines. Grade K-8 students can go outside if the combined temperature and wind chill is 0 degrees or above, barring special circumstances, such as excessive ice. Please be sure to dress your child warmly! Students should remember to bring hats, gloves/mittens, scarves, and coats. They may want to bring an extra fleece to wear, as well as an extra pair of socks in case theirs get wet. Please remember to label these items with your child's name! Read all District 58 winter weather guidelines here.

(Repeat Information) Bundle up! Bus windows will stay open in winter...

To decrease the number of students required to quarantine at home for 10-14 days due to being a close contact, District 58 will keep bus windows cracked open through the winter. If your children are bus riders, please ensure they are dressed for cold weather. The joint guidance was recently released from the Illinois Department of Public Health and the Illinois State Board of Education. The guidance says that when a student bus rider tests positive, fellow bus riders who were 3-6 feet from the infected student will not require exclusion if both the positive case and the close contact were consistently masked AND the windows were opened or HEPA filters were in use.
