Sowers Middle School Weekly Community Update - 1/10/20

Happy Friday!

Welcome back! We hope everyone had a nice winter break and feel recharged and ready for 2020!

School was in full swing this week with exciting learning activities including a crime scene investigation, dodgeball, gymnastics, and green architecture to list a few.

NJHS Student Presentations

National Junior Honor Society members discuss eligibility criteria with students interested in becoming members. See Mrs. Catron for an NJHS application.


  • Candidates eligible must be in the second semester of seventh grade or in the eighth grade class.

  • Candidates eligible shall have a minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.75 cumulative G.P.A., or higher, no suspensions, U’s, N’s, etc. from any year at Sowers.

Sixth graders design blueprints of green homes made from four shipping containers for their clients (another student). They will eventually create a 3D scale model.

8th Graders in Mrs. Black, Mrs. Palmer, Mrs. Mulholland, and Mrs. Johansson's Class Make a Timeline of Earth's Geological History

8th graders are becoming experts in a specific time period with their Geological Time Scale project! They will research and create a poster representing their time period, teach their peers, and connect them to make a timeline of Earth's history.

Students work collaboratively to create crossword puzzles with "mystery hints" using terms from the earth's atmosphere unit. Also, students work on models of the five layers of the earth's atmosphere.
