Chestatee Elementary School

A Letter From Dr. Tennies, Our Principal

Dear Chestatee Families,

Hello Fall! We have almost completed our first quarter of school and are gearing up for October Parent Teacher Conference appointments.

What can you expect?

  • We like to provide options. One positive we learned through our pandemic experience is one size does not fit all. Expect your teacher to be able to provide face to face, virtual, or phone conference options.
  • Expect to talk about the report card. Forsyth County issues a standards-based report card which judges students on a 4-point scale with 3 being proficient, and 4 exceeding the expectation. Fourth and fifth graders also receive numeric grades.
  • Expect that you will have time for questions. You might want to jot a few down ahead of time, knowing that conference time is limited.
  • Know that we are keeping a schedule, so if you need more time, it is possible to connect again later. We will do our best to be timely for all concerned.

Looking forward to seeing you on campus soon and partnering for your child’s education. Together we are Chestatee!

Kindly,

Dr. Polly Tennies

Principal

Big picture

We are proud to announce Kelly Lamb, as our September Staff Member of the Month!

Kelly has been teaching 3rd grade at Chestatee for three years. This will be her 20th year teaching. Over her career, she has taught second and third grade at Oak Hill, Sawnee, and Daves Creek Elementary Schools. She graduated from Georgia Southern University and holds her degree in Early Childhood Education along with her science endorsement. She enjoys hands-on, creative learning opportunities and takes pride in making school fun and meaningful for her students. Mrs. Lamb is a proud Chestatee Eagle!

Mrs. Lamb has been nominated many times over the years, and she was nominated three times just this month. One of her students said it so well when she said, “I love my teacher. She makes my day brighter. She is always understanding when I am upset. She makes me want to be the best me and makes me want to come to school every day.”

Kelly and her husband, Tyler, got married a year ago. They bought a house on the Lake Lanier recently and love spending time together on the lake, travelling, and with friends and family. They love cheering on the Braves and Bulldogs too. Kelly is adored by her students and families. Her team values her positive attitude and great contributions, and her colleagues love how Kelly is always happy go lucky!

We are very grateful that Kelly is a part of our amazing Chestatee staff. Congratulations

to Kelly Lamb!

A big thank you to our PTO and Mathnasium of Coal Mountain for sponsoring our Chestatee Staff Member of the Month Program!

Volunteer Group of the Month: Room Parents

Each class has 1 room parent to help coordinate events and information. We would love other volunteers to support this parent. Right now, room parents are helping to plan the display tables for our Walk and Treat Event, volunteering at the Book fair, and collecting candy for Walk and Treat. The class in each grade level with the most candy collected will earn an ice cream party! Later in the year, the room parents will help coordinate the winter party and teacher appreciation. Thank you, Room Parents!

A Few Words From our Family Engagement Coordinator

Dear Chestatee Families,

I hope your Fall Break was relaxing and gave you a chance to recharge and get ready for a wonderful October!

We are excited to have Parent Teacher Conferences this month! Your child’s teacher will be reaching out to you about a good time to talk. Whether you choose to meet in person or over the phone/ computer, this is such a valuable time of year!

As a teacher, I always loved conference time because it meant sitting down with each parent and taking time to discuss each child at length. As a parent, conference time is my favorite because I get to hear about my child. Conferences provide a chance to speak with the teacher, ask questions, and find out more about how the year is going. As you prepare for this one-on-one time, I encourage you to bring a little list.

What is going well with your child?

What concerns do you have?

Do you need clarity on anything?

Your child’s teacher is on your side. You make a great team together.

The report card can also be a topic of conversation. Report cards will be digital and found on Parent Portal. It is very important to have a Parent Portal Account, so that you will be able to access this information. This year, the county is sending an email every Monday for families who do not have Parent Portal yet. The link is active for 48 hours to set an account up right from home. Ms. Stacey can help families who need a password reset. If you need to activate your Parent Portal Account, please contact Stacey Holbrook at sholbrook@forsyth.k12.ga.us or stop by the front office.

I love helping folks sign up for Parent Portal, so if you have an issue, feel free to reach out to me. We can go over it on the phone or you can come to the front office with me. We also have videos to show how you can use this program. Click here for video help.

See you soon!

Meg
