In-Person Learners
Nightly Reading
Your child should have a ziplock bag with three leveled books and a notecard/sticky note with written titles of the books in their backpack. Your child will get a new bag of books on Monday and will keep that bag until Friday. Your child should keep these books in their backpack so they have them to read at home and at school. Please do not write on the notecard/sticky note and please leave it in the bag. This lets us know the contents so we can keep track of the books.
Please read with your child every evening for 15-20 minutes.
Headphones- PLEASE
Your child should have a set of functioning headphones that he/she can leave at school.
Charge iPads Nightly
We have several students that are coming to school with iPads that are nearly dead. Please help your child get into the routine of charging their iPad each night. Your child will need their device charged to full capacity each day.
Snacks
Snacks will be allowed in the classroom. Snacks must be peanut-free. Good choices are applesauce pouches, pretzels, or crackers. Please refrain from sending anything sticky/juicy/messy or that requires utensils.
Water Bottles
Please send your child with a large, full water bottle each day. Water fountains will not be available to drink from or refill bottles. Water bottle refilling stations will be available for your child to refill their water bottles as needed. Please label your child's water bottles with their first and last name and 2nd grade. Lost/misplaced water bottles without names will be thrown away at the end of the day.
Lunches
Please be sure that your child can easily open the items that you send for lunch so that your child can maximize the amount of time he/she has to eat and minimizes the amount of contact teachers will have with food items.
Recess
We have two short recess breaks that follow the necessary guidelines. In addition to the scheduled recesses, we will have wiggle breaks in the classroom and opportunities to get some fresh air while stretching our legs.
Restroom & Hand Washing
We will be taking frequent restroom and hand washing breaks. In addition to the sinks in the restrooms, each classroom has a working sink, soap, and paper towels. We gladly welcome any foaming hand soap and paper towel donations.
Extra Mask
Please put an extra mask inside a plastic baggie labeled with your child's name in your child's backpack.
Remote Learners
Nightly Reading Options
Your child now has access to Raz Kids. This has been updated to reflect their most recent reading level. Please have your child read at least one book from Raz Kids each evening. Again, this is a leveled reading program. The goal is to make stronger readers. Reading books that are on level helps with this. Books that are frustrational hinder progress and the love of reading.
Please read with your child every evening for 15-20 minutes.
Sora- You will find this in the Learning Commons app through ClassLink. There are a number of great eBooks to choose from. Students may check out books to read for pleasure. This is a great resource but doesn't take the place of leveled reading.
Book Bags- If you prefer for your child to read "good old-fashioned paper books" please email Mrs. Knudson. She will gather appropriately leveled readers that you can pick up from O.C. Taylor.
Synchronous Whole-Class Learning
Students will log in to Ms. Pettit's WebEx room for Announcements and Circle up at 7:40 and Math at 8:00 am, Mrs. Knudson's WebEx room for Humanities at 9:40 am, and Ms. Rodenberger's WebEx room at 12:25 pm for Fundations/Science.
Optional Synchronous Whole-Class Learning
Students should log in to Mrs. Knudson's WebEx room at 10:40 for Read Aloud and Ms. Pettit's WebEx room at 1:10 for Tiger Time.
Check SeeSaw Nightly
Please look over your child's SeeSaw work each evening. We rely on this platform as evidence of the progress your child is making in their school work and learning. There are times that we comment on student work and return it so the student can make corrections and send it back to us. Please remind your child that it is his/her responsibility to make changes (the goal is improvement, not perfection) before sending the work back.
We will email you if your child is missing work and/or not making corrections on their assignments.
Daily Checklist
We have had a few people inquire about providing a daily checklist to help keep your child on track. This will be especially important as our schedule was again modified. We have created a morning and afternoon checklist.
You will need to print out five copies of each for each day of the week.
