First Grade News
September 5-9
NO SCHOOL MONDAY, SEPTEMBER 5TH! HAPPY LABOR DAY!
PICTURE DAY!
Bible
Next week we are learning about Noah and The Tower of Babel. Our verse for the week is Proverbs 3:5-6a, "Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him".
Please work with your student each night to hide God's word in their hearts. We share our verse with the rest of the school at Chapel each Friday.
Math
Next week we begin Chapter 2 - Addition to 6. Look for papers to come home with more grades on them. I only take two grades a week, unless we have a test. I have had several questions about the T on the papers or having some problems that are not completed. The T means we did it together as a class. At least one side of most papers will have Ts on them as we work together on a new concept or review concepts. If I see that more than half of the class is still struggling with a concept I will always to back and reteach. If your student comes home with the words FIX or FINISH on their paper, please have them make the changes or complete the problems and return it to me. I will give half credit for each problem that is fix and I will grade unfinished papers. I do this to help them master concept and not to raise a grade.
Language Arts and Reading
Another part of our reading is the Scholastic News, My Weekly Reader magazine. We read the articles, watch small videos about the topic and play skill games as a part of each magazine. There are also other skill pages that I may use depending on the subject of that week's magazine.
Have a bless week!!
