District Staff Receive State CTE Recognition
Two Fairbanks school district professionals were recognized for their outstanding work in our state and district by the Alaska Association for Career and Technical Education (ACTE).

Student and Mother Present at National Science Conference
Teslin Brannan, Ben Eielson High and BEST homeschool student, former Salcha School student, recently presented on Salcha Elementary's 10-year Piledriver Slough Study at the American Geophysical Union (AGU) conference, where 23,000 scientists gathered from across the world. Both Teslin and Tori (mother) presented at the AGU conference in December. Teslin shared about the big changes she tracked in the slough, Tori shared her experience engaging an entire school in long-term research. Amazing work, way to go Teslin and Tori!
Nomination Deadline for Alaska Teacher of the Year
Nominations are open for the 2022-23 Alaska Teacher of the Year. Do you know an inspiring and passionate educator deserving of the recognition of Alaska Teacher of the Year? For questions, email DEED.SRS@alaska.gov. Nomination deadline is January 31!
North Star College Enrollment Lottery Open!
Apply online! The application deadline is February 17, 2023.
North Star College has been officially recognized by the Alaska Department of Education & Early Development as a school. Enrollment lottery is open and current sophomores and juniors can apply.

Contact Information | Technology & Information Systems
With the start of a new calendar year, make sure your family contact information is current in Powerschool. In the case of emergency, inclement weather, or other district and school communication, it's important the district has your contact information.

District Budget Process | Operations
The Proposed Budget will be presented to the Board of Education at a Work Session on Monday, February 6, 2023 at 6 p.m. The Proposed Budget will also be presented at the Regular Board meeting on Tuesday, February 7. Learn more about the budget process.
Immunization Records | Nursing Services
As a reminder to all parents, if you have not submitted your child’s vaccination records, exemptions, or if your child's vaccinations are not up to date, Nursing Services will be sending email reminders. Nursing Services is working to update all student records by end of this school year. Please contact your child’s school Health Office if you have any questions. Learn more about immunization requirements.
Child Find Screenings | Special Education
Do you think your child (ages 3-5) may have problems with communication, learning, or skill development? You want to know if your child is meeting the age-appropriate milestones for speech and language, motor skills, social behavior, self-help, and thinking. Early Detection is very important and there are resources available. The sooner a delay in development is discovered the sooner help can be offered.
Project SEARCH Accepting Applications For 2023-24 School Year | Special Education
Project SEARCH is a school-to-work transition program for young people with disabilities. If you or someone you know is completing their last year of high school and would benefit from employability skills training, this could be the perfect opportunity! Project Search will be hosting an Open House on Friday, January 13, at Fairbanks Memorial Hospital from 10:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m.
After School Program (ASP) | Student Support Services
2023 Afterschool Programs have begun!
- There will be no ASP during the week of February 20, 2023.
(Dates are in reference to the 21st CCLC grant-funded Afterschool Programs at Anne Wien, Denali, Hunter, Ryan, Lathrop, Weller)
Alaska Native Education Program (ANE) | Student Support Services
Have you enrolled in the Alaska Native Education Program?
Your child may be eligible to enroll in the Title VI Indian Education Program if you, your child, or his/her grandparent are an enrolled member of an:
- American Indian tribe, band, or group
- Alaska Native tribe or if you, your child or a grandparent have a Certificate of Degree of Indian Blood
Title VI Indian Education supports American Indian and Alaska Native students to meet and exceed state academic and cultural standards. Upon enrollment, your child will be eligible to participate in various (K12) programs. Learn how to enroll in the ANE Program.

Migrant Education Program (MEP) | Student Support Services
Have you enrolled in the Migrant Education Program?
MEP eligible students are children who have moved:
- across school district boundaries*
- within the last three years
- on their own, with, or to join a parent, guardian, or spouse
- to obtain or seek work that is seasonal or temporary
- in a fishing, logging, or agricultural activity
- and the move is an economic necessity.
Social Emotional Learning (SEL) | Student Support Services
Social Services Managers (SSMs) support students and families who experience barriers to school success. SSMs strive to connect home, school, and community resources. Learn how to connect with a SSM, or call your child’s school directly.
Parent Learning Hour in Partnership with Stone Soup Group | Special Education
Stone Soup Group will be hosting Parent Learning hour via ZOOM. The next meeting will be January 14, at 10 a.m., register online.
