WASD Strategic Plan
"Strategic planning is worthless, unless there is at first a strategic vision".--John Naisbitt, Author of Megatrends 2000
Our Path Note Topic
This year, WASD has to rewrite its Comprehensive Plan as required by the state. Every three years, a school district either completely rewrites the plan, or it updates the plan. It is WASD's year to rewrite.
With our vision of First Choice, WASD will be writing its plan with First Choice in mind. Aside from our annual strategic plan, the comprehensive plan can reflect the district's direction. The Comprehensive Plan has many components, and must include stakeholders in the planning.
The district will incorporate and align the direction of First Choice with the comprehensive plan. The Whole Child, The Academic, the Career and the Innovative pillars will be included.
If WASD has a comprehensive plan that reflects its annual strategic plan, that only strengthens and complements the district's vision and direction.

It is clear that Emily loves her job and has a passion for helping people of all ages. The Mowrey motto is "Be like Emily Rhodes" because she always goes out of her way to make others feel valued. The staff and students of Mowrey are extremely blessed to have Emily Rhodes!
Join us in congratulating Emily Rhodes as this week's Piece of the Puzzle!
New Policies
Suggested revisions and new policies come from the PA School Board Association, board members, staff, administration, and others. The proposed policy goes to the Policy Committee for review. The Policy Committee will either approve the proposed policy to go to full board for review and adoption, or will deny or wait for a different time to revisit it.
Even though it will not be weekly, stay tuned for any new and/or recently adopted policies in this section.

Food Policy Update: White House National Strategy on Hunger, Nutrition and Health
Of particular note: Modernize federal programs so enrolled individuals can more easily utilize benefits. Many federal programs were established decades ago. To bring federal nutrition assistance programs into the 21st century:
- USDA, through support from ARP funds, will expand online shopping in WIC.
- Online shopping is currently only being piloted in a small number of WIC state agencies.
- USDA will also propose to update regulations to make the SNAP online shopping program permanent and continue to add more online retailers and states to the existing program.
- Online shopping can expand access to healthy food and break down barriers for marginalized communities and older adults who may face discrimination or stigma, increased health risks, or have limited mobility or transportation.
- Additionally, SNAP participants are not currently able to use their benefits to purchase certain prepared foods, which limits choices for families shopping at SNAP-authorized retailers.
- And, as WIC comes up for renewal by Congress, the Administration supports addressing WIC eligibility limitations to avoid nutrition gaps during key stages of life.
