Reading Strategies
The Reading Strategies students celebrated “World Read Aloud Day” (WRAD) on February 1st. While many students read aloud together on a daily basis, the benefits of reading aloud to readers of all ages should be celebrated! WRAD was created byLitWorld International, Inc, an organization that does amazing things across the world to promote and support literacy.
WRAD is a celebration of oral storytelling: an ancient tradition of sharing information and
building community. Embracing the power of storytelling in classrooms can help establish the
connections necessary to build a community. Sharing stories is one way to learn about the
world, how to manage and embrace differences and define our own space in it.
Finally, the most important reason to celebrate WRAD may be the proven benefits of daily
reading aloud to children. Data collected from studies, as published in The Economics of
Education Review, show that daily reading aloud to children puts them almost a year ahead of
children who do not receive daily read-alouds regardless of income, education level or cultural
background.

Nurse's Notes
Parents and Guardians,
Did you know that students in middle school are not allowed to be carrying prescription or over-the-counter medications? If your student needs medication while at school, please contact Nurse Jacobs and I will get you the necessary authorizations.
6th Grade Parents,
Please return any camp health forms or medication forms to nurse Jacobs as soon as possible.
Immunizations:
If your student has had any immunizations recently, please send in a copy to Nurse Jacobs. There are State requirements for additional immunizations before a student begins 8th grade.
General Illness recommendations:
Please keep your student home when they are ill. Any student with a fever should remain home until they are fever-free for at least 24 hours without the use of fever-reducing medications like Tylenol or ibuprofen. A student with vomiting or diarrhea should remain home until they are symptom-free for 24 hours. A student with a cough should remain home until the cough resolves. Thank you for doing your part to keep our school community healthy.
