Grade level meetings to review expectations

This week, Mrs. Ugo, Assistant Principal, met with all grade levels to review expectations again with all grade levels.

Topics included:

  • Be kind to one another
  • Listen to all adults
  • Bathroom procedures and our disappointment with the continued destruction.
  • Use appropriate language in school
  • Be a positive student
  • Summer school requirements if students receive an F on a report card.
  • Eligibility reports for sports, clubs, and activities.
  • Tardies and consequences
  • Hands-off policy: just playing around, just joking is not acceptable. Everyone should keep their hands to themselves.
  • Walk on the ride side of the hallway during passing periods
  • Wearing masks properly and bringing an extra mask.
  • Cell Phones-not allowed during the school day and discussed consequences. Reminded students that if their parents receive text messages from them between 7:45-2:30 they will receive a consequence: the phone will have to be picked up by the parent and the student will serve Saturday School from 8 AM -11 AM. We have phones in the office if a student needs to call home. Cell phones should be in the student's locker during the school day.
  • Social Media… be safe and do not share passwords.
  • Lunch -walk with a purpose to get there on time.
  • Buses -wear your mask, sit down and stay quiet. The bus drivers’ job is to transport you from house to school and school to house in a safe manner.

This week's meetings were the third time this year, we have discussed school-wide expectations with our students.

Bathroom Passes

In the past, student bathroom passes have been a part of the agenda notebook planners that are distributed at the beginning of the year. Unfortunately, the agenda notebook planners have yet to arrive for this school year. To help with organization and passes to the bathroom, students will receive an organizational page at the beginning of the week for assignments that also includes two daily bathroom passes. Students can also use the bathrooms during PE and lunch, so there are four opportunities during the day for students to go to the bathroom as needed.

Backpacks

Starting, Monday, October 25th, students will need to keep backpacks in their lockers. Students will have several opportunities throughout the day to go to their lockers to get the materials needed for classes. Teachers are spending time reviewing organizational strategies with students, so they will know what materials to bring to classes and what can be left in the locker.

Shield Testing 10-19-21

James Hart School had 674 negative results (students and staff) from Shield testing on Tuesday, October 19, 2021. There were no positive tests reported for this week as of 12pm on Friday, October 22, 2021. Final results will be posted on the district COVID dashboard.

Personal Hygiene

The social pressures for adolescents are great, and bodily changes can be a source of anxiety for some. Growing adolescents have an increased need for attention to personal hygiene: regular bathing, washing and wearing clean clothes, wearing deodorant, etc. In an effort to stay healthy and avoid uncomfortable social interactions, please discuss the importance of personal hygiene with your student. See the attached website for more information related to adolescent hygiene needs: Hygiene Basics (for Teens) - Ann & Robert H. Lurie Children's Hospital of Chicago (XML) (kidshealth.org).If you have any specific concerns about your students, please do not hesitate to reach out to me.

Thank you!
