A Look Ahead
May 1st to 7th, 2016
Staff Appreciation Week
Thanks for everything that you do to make Hadfield a great place for students, families, and staff. Below is a sneak peak at a few surprises for the week ! I am so proud to work alongside such a caring and dedicated staff.
Monday: A continental breakfast starting at 8:00 a.m. will be provided. Please join us in the Collaboration Zone for some breakfast treats.
Tuesday: The PTO is taking care of lunch.
Friday: Blizzard is providing lunch. Skip your bologna sandwich for the day!
Proud: I was so impressed with PLC presentations that were shared at the staff meeting on Thursday. They were focused on data, responsive to student needs, and consistent with the Plan-Do-Study-Act model. Quality PLC's are a high leverage practice that is critical to raising student achievement.
Proud: Thanks to Ryan and the Vanguard team in facilitating learning around the SAMR model. So many good conversations about sound instructional practices. In year 1 of 1:1 implementation, Hadfield is ahead of other schools. Thanks for your efforts!
Congratulations to Michelle Murray and Joyce Hawkins as they were recognized last week at a reception for School District of Waukesha employees. They have been in the School District of Waukesha for 15 years. Be sure to congratulate Michelle and Joyce on their dedicated service and commitment to students.
16-17 Special Schedule Meeting: Thursday, May 5th, 2016
Please consider joining the special schedule meeting on Thursday. We will be meeting in Room 155 at 3:50 p.m. Please come with ideas on possible tweaks.

Reminder from the SDW Human Resources Department
Please remind employees to review the Employee Handbook if they are going to be absent the day before or after the PAID holiday.
Employee handbook states:
4.04 Personal Business Leave
All eligible employees may use one paid sick day per year for personal reasons, although principals may limit the number of employees taking a personal day if the number of requests exceeds ten percent (10%) of the staff at that building. Personal days must be logged through Skyward (and Aesop if needed) as early as possible. Personal days need not receive prior approval from the human resources department.
However, any requests for unpaid leaves (deduct days), must be made through the human resources department and include specific details to support the request. Use of a personal day preceding or following a paid holiday will result in a deduct in pay for the holiday. If no sick leave is available, no personal day may be taken. Please see Section
4.08, Leaves of Absence, for requesting short-term leaves of absence.
A paid holiday is a day off with pay for the number of hours the employee normally works. Paid holidays will be provided to full-time and part-time employees who work at least four (4) hours per day according to the following schedule:
A) Employees working a full calendar year (260 work days, e.g., year-round, 12-month) New Year’s Day/ Thanksgiving Day/ Good Friday /Day after Thanksgiving Day/ Memorial Day (Federal) December 24/ July 4/ December 25/ Labor Day/ December 31
B) Employees working less than 260 work days (e.g., school year, 10-month)
Memorial Day /Thanksgiving Day/Labor Day
4.10 Holidays during Vacation
When an authorized holiday falls within an employee’s paid vacation period, the employee may choose to take another day off with pay in lieu of the holiday. Scheduling this day is subject to the approval of the supervisor.
4.11 Eligibility for Holiday
In order to be eligible for holiday pay, an employee must work the employee’s scheduled workdays immediately preceding and following the holiday, otherwise the holiday shall be unpaid. If the employee uses sick time for a scheduled workday immediately preceding or following the holiday and obtains medical certification, sick time may be used for the holiday in lieu of being docked holiday pay. Employees on unpaid leave of absence shall not be eligible for holiday pay if the holiday falls during the absence period. (See exception in Section 4.10, above).

Benefits Meetings: Open Enrollment
All benefit eligible employees must meet with an on-site professional Benefit Counselor this year to enroll in 2016-2017 benefits. If you do not meet with a counselor, you will not have benefits for the 2016-2017 plan year.
Benefit Counselor Meeting dates have been scheduled for your sites Remember all employees will be required to meet with a Benefit Counselor to actively re-enroll for 2016 - 2017. Benefit Counselors will be onsite at Hadfield May 18th to 20th.
See the link below for more details and to sign up for the counseling meeting.
While there, the Counselor will meet with employees one at a time to minimize disruptions to the work day. They will be available to assist employees with making their benefit decisions and capture their elections directly in the Districts online enrollment system using a laptop.
End of the Year Information
Hello Summary Year and Supporting Year Educators,
By the end of the week, you should have received an invite from Bob for your Summary Year Conference or Paula/Michelle for Supporting Year Educators.
Realistically, to review all of your artifacts for scoring consideration (summary year educators only) prior to our meeting, please send this information 1 week in advance of your scheduled meeting time. For example, a meeting that is scheduled for May 13th you would submit this information no later than May 6th. Please note this deadline applies to all educators, not just those who are on summary year. This deadline allows time to review artifacts and provide meaningful formative and summative feedback.
I would recommend setting up a calendar invite for yourself 1 week ahead of your scheduled meeting as a reminder to yourself to submit this information in Google Classroom. This includes your artifact collector, SLO, and PPG. When self-scoring your SLO please refer to the rubric in Google Classroom. For your SLO and PPG please complete end of the year information.
As we look at May calendars, it will be a challenge (not impossible) to reschedule with people. Thanks again for efforts in getting this information 1 week in advance of your scheduled meeting time.
Please reach out to Bob, Michelle, or Paula with any further questions so you are best prepared during this important meeting.
Have a great week,
For additional information on the end of the year process, please review the module below from DPI. This is the same module that shared in Spring of 2015.

Students not Meeting growth target consecutive years
In the link below you will find a list of 2nd to 5th-grade students who did not meet their growth target for the 2014-15 school year. You will notice the status of them being on track in meeting their goal as it relates to 2015-16 growth target. This is based on the most recent January 2016 MAP assessment in reading and math. Thanks to the data team for their help with this data analysis.
Next steps and questions to consider
Students not meeting their growth target for consecutive years is concerning. Keep in mind the growth target is recalculated and lowered after they did not meet the target last spring.
Are the students receiving Tier 3 support in Math or Reading? What other supports are in place at the universal level for these students? How are they supported within the workshop model? Does MAP align with other formative data you have on the student?
Has a PST request been considered?
