PTA
Welcome Back Alamo School Families!!!! I hope you all had a wonderful and well deserved Spring Break- I know I did!!! Whether you are in school or remote, this was one much needed break!
PLEASE join us for our GENERAL ASSOCIATION MEETING on Thursday, April 15th at 6:30pm. I am excited to welcome special guest Joe Inora, Support Counselor for SRVUSD, for an introduction to conflict resolution for parents and kids. I learned so much from this quick presentation, I hope you can join and gain from his valuable insight. Also in this meeting we will hear from Principal Salazar and we will be providing information regarding volunteer opportunities for the PTA. Hope to “see” you there! Register HERE After registering, you will receive a confirmation email containing information about joining the meeting.
The Principal chat that was scheduled for April 14 was canceled as Mrs. Salazar will be speaking at the General Association meeting instead.
The next Scholastic Virtual Book Fair for Alamo School kicks off April 19! Thank you to Tara Gilad for making this happen!!!! Promotional flyers will be distributed on Monday and your child will have access to the link in their classroom streams. Your book purchases help support the PTA!!!! https://www.scholastic.com/bf/alamomustangs
The PTA is looking to recruit a volunteer to chair Staff Appreciation over the week of May 3-7. Room parents have already collected classroom money to put toward gifts for their respective teachers, so this job just covers planning a school wide theme, messaging, etc for all teachers and staff. This “event” will take place virtually (we have last year to build off of, so you will not be recreating the wheel). It’s such a fun way to celebrate our wonderful staff and say “thank you”!!! Let’s show our special teachers how much we care!!! Please contact Jenn Hoffman schmallie33@hotmail.com or Michelle Petersen michesinnott@gmail.com to volunteer or for any questions you may have.
Save the Dates!
Virtual Family Reading Night, Tuesday April 27, 6:30pm
Come join in this year’s final Family Reading Night! Alamo families are welcome to connect over Zoom to hear stories read by parents, teachers, and staff. This is a casual event - relaxing and pajamas are welcome. Book theme will be: Family Favorites (the ones your kids want to hear over and over!). Please contact Bridget Williams at bridgetwilliams4@icloud.com if you would like to read. Zoom details HERE.
Saturday, April 24 at 10:30am: San Ramon Valley Council of PTAs is pleased to present a virtual Family Engagement opportunity featuring speakers from C.O.P.E. (Counseling Options and Parent Education) The presentation will focus on the pros and cons of video games for children. Video games do have their positive attributes, but for many parents, it’s a struggle addressing screen-time, safety, potential dependency, violence, etc. This has been a larger struggle for parents during the pandemic with kids at home every day doing school remotely. Whatever the family "rules" or norms were pre-pandemic, kids are spending more time gaming, which for many has been a primary form of entertainment, stimulation and social interaction during shelter-in-place. This lively interactive presentation will discuss:
The pros and cons of video gaming;
Gaming provides social interaction safely during quarantine;
Dependency/addiction to gaming;
Gender norms of video games;
Sleep hygiene/how gaming can interrupt sleep patterns;
Effects on youth from violent video games; and
Screen fatigue.
Students, family members and educators are invited to attend and participate in the discussion. There will be breakout groups for students, parents and educators to discuss topics and share their perspectives and experiences with others. Advanced registration is required. Zoom links will be sent out by Friday April 23 at 5pm.
Monday, April 27 @ 6:30pm: Stories Build Bridges Speaker Series #3 With over a decade of experience as a political operative and civil engagement advocate, Jones will be sharing about her various leadership roles and her passion for diversity and inclusion. She has been featured in Vogue, the New York Times, and The Wall Street Journal, and most recently, was the national organizing director at Rock the Vote for the 2020 election. Register HERE After registering, you will receive a confirmation email containing information about your Zoom link to join the meeting. Questions?
