Roy B Kelley January Newsletter
Dear Roy B. Kelley Families
I hope you all had a wonderful and peaceful holiday. We are now into 2024! December was a fun filled month here at RBK. We had successful parent/teacher conferences. The PTA hosted the Merry Moose Christmas shop and our students were able to buy gifts for their families. All of our students went to LHS on December 19th and enjoyed traditional Native American dances from a group of students from Akron Central School. Just before break many of our students tried out for our musical, “Finding Nemo” , which will be presented April 18th to the 20th. On our last day, December 22nd, our students and staff had pajama day and all the classrooms were visited by Mr. & Mrs. Santa Claus!
It has been my pleasure to have worked here at RBK as the Interim Principal. I have enjoyed all of the students and this amazing staff! I wish RBK continued success in the future and I am sure that Mrs. Krecisz will lead RBK to even greater success.
My very best wishes!
Barb Converso
Mr & Mrs. Santa Claus Visit RBK!
Welcome Mrs. Krecisz!
January will see changes at RBK. Our new principal, Mrs. Aliscia Krecisz, was appointed on December 19th and will begin full time on January 22nd.
Our social worker, Mrs. Vanessa Bancroft will also leave us to become an assistant principal with the Maryvale School District. We have a new social worker joining us on January 2nd, Mrs. Kirstie O’Grady.
Native American Performances at LHS
The Lockport City School District has proudly incorporated a series of cultural heritage celebrations to take place throughout the school year. These celebrations have featured community groups who share insights into their respective cultures through informative discussions and engaging performances. On December 19, students from the Seneca Nation in Akron Schools' Native American Club visited Lockport High School to share their cultural values through song and dance.
With three different performances to make sure every student from kindergarten through grade 12 could participate, guests from Akron showcased a mesmerizing smoke dance, the graceful women's shuffle dance, and the energetic alligator dance. In addition, Seneca Nation students and staff also provided lessons on traditional musical instruments, language, and the significance of living in a matriarchal society.
Lockport students and staff were thrilled to not only watch, but also participate in the performances. During the smoke dance, they were invited to the dance floor to join in on the fun. Following the first session, LHS students even flooded the gymnasium floor to take selfies and talk with their peers from Akron.
Snowflakes from the PTA
Snowflakes were crafted by every grade level at RBK, with the PTA providing the materials through the diversity initiative to ensure uniqueness in each creation.
Kindergarten made sticker snowflakes, grade 1 & 2 made wooden stick snowflakes, and grade 3 & 4 created beaded snowflakes.
Grade 4 Chorus performs at Kenan Center Winterfest
4th graders from Roy B Kelley spread holiday cheer by singing at the Kenan Center Winterfest in December. Students had been practicing for the annual RBK Holiday Sing Along that takes place every year on the last day of school before winter break. Happy Holidays!
