Basic Genetics
Same parents but different appearances?
Why are they not identical if they have the same mom and dad?
It all depends on what your parents traits are, depending if they are homozygous dominant or recessive or heterozygous.
Whats homozygous dominant, recessive and heterozygous?
Homozygous is when both alleles are the same.
Dominant is the allele that will show on your outside appearance.
Recessive is the allele that shows your appearance that's in your DNA (doesn't show).
Heterozygous is two different alleles.
Punnet Squares!
Punnet Squares show the possibilities of your parents genotype. Which determines your phenotype.
Gregor Mendal
"The father of genetics". Identified many of the rules of heredity. These rules determine how traits are passed through generations of living things.
